Record cleaning machines

maybe He should buy them from me, hahahhaha
They never told me I had a limit to buy and they were very fast and profesional
And they send it very well protected.

Lu, over on the 'other' forum says he tried contacting them for an order of twelve units ($48,000) and apparently he's been completely ignored ??? Hell of a way to do business !!

apparently all is now resolved………..

Well, I purchased the Audio Desk several months back. (group effort) A stupid arm injury precluded me setting up anything mechanical and the beautiful thing has been sitting in a closet. I am pleased to say that after months of therapy I can move the arm again and I am ready to take my cleaner out of the box. My wife used all my distilled water for the fish so I have to grab a few gallons to get going. My first album will be a Santana Abaxas which looks mint but has noise. Stand by.

Ok. I am not ready to give first impressions of the Audio Desk yet. But there is a slight bug I think I remembered reading about before. The records does not spin without a little help from me ie a nudge. What is the fix for this?

The fix is to properly seat the record when you first put it in. It's not a bug. Put the record in and give it a half inch turn clockwise.

Thanks Mike: The other issue I am noting is the water level white float. It is not horizontal to the ground, Its has a 10-15 degree tilt. Who could I ask about this?

Call the cable co. They can help especially since we bought it from there. Just make sure the AudioDesk is perfectly level then check the float (to be honest - a tilt in the float doesn't really matter).

No the issue is it will not go all the way to top so I do not know optimal water level. Perhaps its an optical illusion but the float appears (to me) to be wound like a spool and it appears one end is loose. I took a picture with my Ipad and would like to post it or at least send it to you for opinion. I will call the cable company tomorrow. (send me your email through pm)

Let me take a picture of mine and post.

Don't worry about the tilt of the float if the unit is level. Do ensure the water level is topped up so that the float just reaches the top of the window.
As mike noted above, i usually insert the record and then give it a counterclockwise turn of an inch or so so that the squeegee lips flip upwards to allow easier travel of the record as it spins (this helps ensure proper drying as well).

I've never tried record cleaning machines. I just rinse my records in the sink and wipe dry with a soft towel. No scratches or label damage. Works for me!

Yep I do the same.I make a mix of distilled water Dawn and 91% alcohol and wash them with one of those flat paint brushes then dry with a micro fiber cloth.I also made a clamp that seals off and protects the record label while washing. It works great.

Never in my whole life I cleaned so many LPs in one day
If one of you think on getting one of these ultrasonic RCM, don't hesitate on jump the wagon, they do miracles and get the job done .
If you have more than 1k LP collection is IMO a most have in your house

I've had an Audio Desk unit for about 14 months without any issues, thank heavens. This is an item that from day one, I've loved and never had a moment of regret. Besides the fact these ultrasonic machines clean extremely well. I actually USE mine. For me, this issue is not whether or not it cleans better than a manual unit, the issue is that I don't have the patience to use a manual unit. I had a Spin Clean machine that cleaned well, but I never used it. It did not clean as well as the AD, IMO.

I just use distilled water and the surfactant supplied as recommended.

Just saved two hard to get CCR records Saturday that I thought were goners. They had so many crackles and noise that they were almost unlistenable to me. I cleaned them three times prior a few months ago with various combos of AIVS formula and only got very tiny improvement, but not enough to measure. I then used my homebrew which is distilled water, a very tiny amount of 91% alcohol, a few drops of Dawn and perhaps 4 or 5 drops of Jet Dry. I figured I had nothing to lose and I'll be damned if it didn't work to bring one of them all the way to digitizing level (meaning not one audible crackle in the music) and the other to very good listening level (not quite enough for digitizing). That is extremely good for used CCR records as they were party records and very rare to find in good condition and mine are no exception. I had all but given up on them, so I was chaffed! I guess all the AIVS soaks perhaps got things started in the right direction and time and the homebrew did the rest. Some times the homebrew surprises me. All work done on my VPI 16.5.

PS (If I had 1k or more records I'd do whatever I could to get an autodesk like unit, but at 300 records it is far from justified. I will never own 1k records though, no room for them and I'm extremely picky about what I want on vinyl. I don't see myself with more than about 360 or so).

:) I really have to look into getting one of these, I looked at my beloved Loricraft and then the stack of glorious records I have collected "approx. 1000" but yet listened too them because they have to be cleaned and thinking of the hours it would take :( I really don't enjoy cleaning records.

That's what I love about these two machines. Drop the record in, push start and come back when it stops or beeps. No muss, no fuss!
