Quad ESL-2912 ...

There are other e-stats definitely worth considering in addition to Quads. King Sound, Sound Lab and the omni-directional ones from Canada; they have each sounded pretty amazing to me at least once, and in show conditions no less.

Joe... I vividly remember hearing these at the show last weekend...WOW!!

I heard a piano piece playing and was immediately captivated. Sounded so very life like and real... Super musical too... I do agree the room was a bit small...but WOW....

Uh oh. I'm in trouble.

Thank you Andy. We will have to talk when you get back. I think there's a dealer in NJ that carries them. We should take a trip.

Joe,

Yes, there is, Audio Nexus. But unfortunately my auditioning experiences there have not been too good. You may want to try elsewhere. But Quad purchasers do order from him pretty regularly.

I know ken and have purchase my Sonus Faber speakers from him. Very nice man but I agree...auditioning gear there wasn't the greatest experience for me. I really liked the Quads at the show last week...nice surprise for me...

I've had my 2905s for 2.5yrs and they have been/are excellent in terms of reliability and sound quality. Bass, while not slam in your chest but it can still move you. It also sounds very balanced with the overall speaker performance. The speakers have an effective protection circuit to prevent them being overdriven. I use either a large, dual mono, high current SS power amplifier or two mono-block valve amplifiers. Both sound very, very nice with the speakers. I have moved house once with the Quads and I have kept the shipping cases (built-in shipping pallets) which is the only way to move them to reduce the chance of damage. I'd love to hear a pair of Sound Labs ESL but I don't think they are available in Australia.
Overall to improve on the performance of these speakers I believe you would have to pay a lot more money.

Hi Ken,

Thank you so much for your thoughts. I had Apogee Duetta II's and loved them.

I understand your points and think I agree 100%. I have the perfect amps for the 20.7 with the Bryston 28's and CJ ART monos.

I would like the intimate nature of the Quads but worry about their complexity. I have to believe the 20.7 would be easier to live with in the long term and a great counterbalance to my Strads.

I'll have to see what other bright ideas I get before I pull the trigger on something. There's so much I want and so little funds to play with :D

Thanks again!

Hi Joe,
Looks like some Maggie 20.7 funds might be coming available! :bananasplit:
