Qobuz has officially released Qobuz Connect.! And It works great! Finally!!

There has to be something that I'm doing wrong when playing tunes on the LUMIN T2 (using Qobuz Connect within the Qobuz App, controlling with the iPad). The T2 and LUMIN App both fire up and everything is going great for the first track, but as soon as I pick something to play next it starts playing the new choice through the iPad and not through the T2.

I must be doing something out of order. Is there a tutorial out there? How to use Qobuz Connect with a LUMIN player would be most helpful.

As I understand it, the "Connect" part is to allow Qobuz to be used on devices that don't run either Windows or Mac, and are not programs like Sonos, Roon, or the many others that wrote Qobuz into them.

Or am I mis-understanding that? I have had no problems playing Qobuz from my phone/iPad, or my Mac or PCs. And Roon incorporates it well. It was a bit wonky on Sonos, but then Sonos was still wonky last time I played around with it. Have to do a new Sonos set up in the new house, so I will be re-evaluating. Its mainly used for her Spotify.

Like Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect will work on it's own with any device that is on Qobuz's list whether or not it has it's own dedicated software or not with Qobuz integrated. In my systems it works with Auralic and Eversolo but not the Holo Red which has no software program for control. If Sonos chooses to become approved it will work with their devices also.

If you are playing Qobuz from your Apple devices (for example) you are using AirPlay or Bluetooth and you need to keep your devices on in order to listen to your music. In other words, the music is going through your devices.
Unlike Bluetooth or AirPlay, Qobuz Connect streams bit-perfect music directly to the playback device at the highest resolution (without the resolution limitations of AirPlay or Bluetooth).

If you're going to use Qobuz Connect you don't open the Lumin app at all.
That's what I thought, but when I run it to the LUMIN T2, as soon as I start playing a tune in the Qobuz App, the LUMIN App opens up on the iPad and shows what is playing. Then when I try playing another tune the same way I played the first one - in the Qobuz App to the LUMIN, the new song begins playing on the iPad and not on the LUMIN like the first one did.

There must be something simple (to most people, but not to me) in the settings that enables streaming content via Qobuz Connect from the iPad to the LUMIN without getting the LUMIN App involved, but it has escaped me so far.

Are you only playing one song at a time with nothing else in the queue? Have you turned on auto play in the Qobuz app. If either is the case then after that one song is finished it is likely reverting back to it's base operation which would be playing to the control device.

Jack,

This was just me trying to see what it could do - by trying a track. Once I confirmed that the iPad, Qobuz Connect and LUMIIN were cooperating, I tried another song after the first one played (Also from Qobuz with the LUMIN selected as the device for playback, same way I played the first track).

Yes, my issue occurred when only one song was played and ended, but it was my only experience with Qobuz Connect and the LUMIN player. I sure won't find this Qobuz Connect useful if I'm not able to play (and add) songs without having to toggle back and forth every single song. (Like I've been doing without issues for several years now when playing Qobuz on bluetooth devices or playing Qobuz on the LUMIN through the LUMIN App.)

I'm all ears if anyone can tell me how to 1) successfully play a song from the Qobuz App via Qobuz Connect from the iPad to the LUMIN T2 without involving the LUMIN App, and then 2) select and play another song after the first one ends - and having the second selection also play on the LUMIN without doing anything else but selecting the song (again, without involving the LUMIN App).

I will be busy doing yard work for pretty much the whole day, so I'll check for suggestions and tinker with it a bit tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for all of your help and suggestions. As you can tell, I am completely lost here. It has to be something simple, but it is escaping me. You don't know how much I appreciate any and all help!

A few thoughts:
1. Make sure that you have the latest software for all devices (latest iPad OS, Lumin, and Qobuz).
2. Make sure that your Lumin and Qobuz are connected on the same WiFi network.
3. When you play a track using Qobuz, click on the device icon. You will see several options. Then select your player (Lumin) that shows under the networked/wifi devices. Under the name of the player you will also see “Qobuz Connect”.
Important: Do NOT pick the Lumin device that shows under the AirPlay or Bluetooth devices you do not want that.

I gave it another run last night, and it seems to be working now. I must have done something out of order.

One thing I'm still not clear on: The LUMIN App appears on the iPad (or phone) at the same time the LUMIN T2 turns on whenever I play Qobuz Connect directly to the LUMIN T2. Is this normal? I was under the impression that using Qobuz Connect completely eliminated the playback device's app or software from the chain. Maybe there's a setting that I'm missing?

Nicoff, I did everything exactly as you suggest. Pierre, yes - I do have the LUMIN (with Qobuz Connect under it) selected.

Thanks to everyone who has helped me and will help me!

I am guessing that it is a setting somewhere. I can use the Lumin app to control the unit, and as soon as I give the Lumin a command from another device? It only listens to the command of that device. Whether it be from the laptop, using Qobuz connect, an i-phone, the Samsung pad or my Android phone.

Is one or more of your devices set on auto rotate or continual play?

The lumin app only opens up on other devices when I open the app, even when I use Qobuz connect (AFAIK). Don't hold me to that though...

treitz3 and PierreB, all of my settings appear to be where they should be. I played with it once more, and when I was done playing I found that the LUMIN App had not turned on. (I discovered this because I had to launch it to power the T2 off from my couch.) I must have inadvertently turned the T2 on in previous trials without realizing it.

I like that I can control Qobuz Connect on the main rig from either the iPhone or iPad (or both at the same time).

At some point I will do some critical listening to see if the sound is any better or worse via Qobuz Connect vs. the LUMIN App. I haven't done any direct comparisons yet, and doing so will take some time. I will have to get a friend to come over and do the switching back and forth unsighted to me, which is always pretty boring (to them) and usually results in them leaving before the experiment has run its proper course. My guess is that it will be hard to improve on the sound of the LUMIN App.

The two places where I would really find something like Qobuz Connect useful would be my Alpine car stereo and Peachtree Audio deepblue2 speaker, neither of which are supported. Too bad, because I spend considerable time listening to both, and they are my two weakest audio-quality links (bluetooth) that could sure use the higher fidelity.
