PS Audio DirectStream DAC

Thanks for the review and link playntheblues and joe. I think i have decided on my preamp. Placette. It fits my budget perfectly and i already am very satisfied with the Hugos sound.. i actually didn want a preamp but i needed a remote.. Placette seeems to be the answer to put between the Hugo and Job 225. Placing an order next week.

I would be curious as to why you think that. Also a one input device wouldn't work in my setup at all. I always have two TT's plus one digital source at all times. The digital in for only when I feel lazy or the selection is not available on vinyl. Myself and many others think the Wyred is an excellent option with the appropriate amp. When I swap out the JOB for amps with lower sensitivity I always go back to higher gain tube preamps.

Hey playntheblues, are you using the stock placette RVC or did you get any custom work done to match Job 225? I am about to order one.. thanks.

Just a personal opinion, but to think the Wyed pre is not veiled is a little naive. Here is a link to a used Placette for sale with 3 inputs if that helps. Placette Audio Passive Linestage | Solid state | Fife, Washington 98424 | AudiogoN - The High-end Audio Community and then if you really want the cats meow you can get their quasi active pre. It has a constant input impedance of 18k ohms. The low output impedance of 10 ohms insures that it can drive long cables. Noise and distortion is so low that it is difficult to measure accurately. You will find both of these pres in 100k plus systems depending on what is needed, and the list of pres in 100k systems is relatively short.

I bought mine used Naim101, and it was padded down at the factory 9db as to not make the first couple of steps to loud. It also has HT pass through. You can now also add the Line stge amplifier for 1,200.00 which will allow to RVC to essentially become the Active version. Unless you need more inputs that is the cost effective way to go it insures a constant input impedance of 18k ohms with a low output impedance of 10 ohms.

Bottom line guys is it is just another wonderful alternative we have, and as you know there are many and depending on your system, your needs etc. may or may not be what you are looking for. I am from the transparent, live camp. I love to hear everything, some feel to do this you have to give up that buttery sound. I feel I get no listener fatigue in a well set up transparent system, some insist on tubes etc., just different course's. I would say just like adding tubes to system does not guarantee the system to be veiled and distorted, you can have transparency and not get listener fatigue. FWIW

In my opinion these reviews have understated the DS quality. Mine has been running about a week straight and wow, I guess my vinyl collection is going to be collecting dust now because my digital audio now surpasses my analog rig. Not fully broken in yet I assume but OMG, it's truly magic. I thought my old NAD M51 was a good DAC, ha ha, not even close, so far i am just happily amazed.
