Prince has Died

Kuoppis - Because he found a way to make lots of money doesn't make him a genius. I have no contempt for him. I wish i had been fortunate enough to make that kind of money. He taught himself piano and guitar, hired others to make the real music while he fronted the band. He left no legacy. Beethoven was a genius, he was not. I see you've put together a high priced rig.... I suspect you too have found a way.

You clearly are clueless as far as Prince goes, let alone your total lack of respect and class in a RIP thread.

His father actually taught him to play piano and music in general as he was a professional jazz musician. Yes he taught himself to play every other instrument that one would normally have in a band or studio environment.

You act as if his success was some lucky break and you seem resentful that you have not been as lucky? You are correct in one point, he did find a way to make money - write fantastic music that is appreciated by millions of people around the world.

He has had 39 albums in a recording career of 38 years. I have been listening to Pince and enjoying his music for 35 years. The majority of his albums have been written by, played by and produced by Prince. He has generally brought in unknown musicians for the times he set up a band and written songs for them as well, not studio musos. You do realise that to play live you need to have a band? His music he has in his vault will hopefully be released for the next 20 years as he has that much original unreleased material.

He has written many hit songs for other artists like Sinead O'Çonner, Chaka Khan, Vanity 6, Stevie Nicks, Cindy Lauper, the Bangles, Alicia Keys to name a few.

anyway, too much airtime has been given already to you - back to the music.

Ah ..XV-1.... Indeed!!! I am clueless...that's why I asked the question in the first place.....Why is Prince revered. I know he was taught by his father...that he taught himself piano et al.....that doesn't mean much. He also was a nice guy...he bicycled with the "regular" people in the neighborhood. So what I would like to know if YOU know why Prince is revered. What contribution has he brought to us to make him more worthwhile than I am. I am a pro musician...have been playing in bands for 50 years or so....can ANYONE tell me why Prince is revered.

His Music and Songs - that is why millions of people like him.

Not jealous...just trolling for some intellect....there doesn't seem to be any here.

Dr Stringreen...Anyone with a philosophical appreciation will understand that Prince was revered because he was a respected artist, musician, songwriter and performer. People's love for him is measurable in many ways.

His style and interpretation of music was unique. Prince will live on to achieve historical recognition and deserves to be remembered in such an iconic way.

Such artists empower reflection upon their audience. Reflect on that.

I told you, he got game. You feel game with your gut; don't think it with your brain. You should give it a whirl some time.

back to the beautiful music Prince has made in his lifetime. Prince's albums generally have not been nice and easy listens - outside of the few commercial songs he seems to be able to effortlessly write on each album, the rest of his albums generally take several listen to get fully into. that is what makes them ultimately so rewarding.
No better than Sign Of the Times. perhaps my fav and every time I play this, even after almost 30 years I appreciate something new.

original German pallas pressing - sounds sublime.

Steve....all I wanted to know was a couple of ways he's granted this reverence that I hear all over. No one can tell me anything of worth. Elvis is worthy of his mark in history because he found a way to successfully marry country/western, and religious music....Frank Sinatra was the greatest exponent of proper phrasing, JS Bach invented our system of music (harmonic and contrapuntal) that all of us musicians use this very day (including Prince), Guillaum de Marchaut wrote the first polyphonic Ordinary of the Mass.....and so it goes. The Beatles were revered in their time, yet high school kids never heard of them today. If one were to give something as valuable as reverence, they should discriminate to whom they give it. Too many walk around with not only their hats, but their heads turned backward.

Dude you should really just knock it off. You may be smarter than all of us, but I fear you are not smart (or existential) enough to understand the answer to your own question. You are really becoming a disrespectful buzz kill for the fans on this thread here for a higher purpose.

They had "Purple Rain" on TV today, never was a fan, but I tried to watch it.

Turned it off after 15 minutes.

RIP.

Ha ha. Listen to the album, that is where he excels. Even for a huge fan like me, I don't really think his movies are very good.

To do that, I'd have to purchase the album.

I'd rather donated the money to my local food bank.

Prince had game and a number of great songs. Which ones are your all-time favorites?

I go first, difficult to determine an order of preference:
- little red corvette
- raspberry beret
- purple rain
- kiss
- 1999
[...]
...

Yup, agree with you on those. Reminds me of a different era in my life.

Just went on Amazon - the current bestsellers are are his albums.

perhaps you should put your money where your mouth is and do it. Congrats on your donation as the food bank will appreciate it.

I donate to our food bank and blood bank on a regular basis. How about you?

After watching his movie, owning/listening to any of Prince's music isn't on my to do list.

I just put on Sign 'O' The Times as brought up a couple posts earlier, which was not mentioned anywhere on my quick recap of some of his bests. Had completely slipped my mind...

This just demonstrates the incredible productivity Prince had, the list appears almost endless. There is so much to add to the best of list.

Sign O the Times is his magnum opus. It is culmination of brilliant run through the 80s, advanced even further conceptually than anything he had done up to that point.
