Pre-amp/DAC for JOB 225

As I have not heard any I can not comment. I hope it is as good as they say.

Hi everyone,

What do you think about TVC passive preamplifiers?

TVCs ? It is quite complex and depends on how much you are stepping down the signal. The more you step down the signal, the more current drive you are getting. Considering the Job has high input sensitivity, you will be stepping down quite a fair bit even with a nominal 2V signal, which is a good thing for a TVC.

One problem is that the TVC has fixed steps, and depending on how the transformer is wired, your steps could be too coarse at your listening range.

The only experience I have with a TVC is a Promitheus Audio unit that had a certain softness to it. I am not sure whether that is a TVC quality, but for the Promitheus at least, I would not regard its tone as being a good match with the Job.

Hi Joe,

Where can I find more information on this preamp? Cannot find the price on the website. Would you recommend it with the Job?

Thanks!

Yes Sir! Mine should be here in a few days. Hopefully my Teddy Pardo ps will arrive sometime this week or next. Can't wait.

Here is the website for the volume control:

You gotta wait for the grand unveiling Mike!

I suspect Joe will have an instant classic....the 3 codes words are Gold, Silver and Platinum (wire)!

Norman,

I am so looking forward to having the proper Job volume control. This is exciting and thanks for finding Richard of Aum Acoustics.

The new preamp Job might look like this, it uses circuits job (stellavox.com)

Perhaps we do not need to pay more money.

Digital source (2 Vrms, <500 ohms) -> Passive / attenuator Preamplifier -> The Job 225 (51 KOhms)

=>
Impedance: 1:100

Tape Out - 2 inputs, 1 variable out, 1 fixed output

• to EU: £135 + £15 = £150 => €183€

• to USA/Canada: £135 + £18 = £153 => $256 + custom?

And we can ask for the changes we want, including volume and selector.

At the past, 2012:

The Tilsbury doesn't look anywhere near as good the pot it basically a crap Chinese switch, ask around on the forum I know four people who that volume pot they all click, hum, stutter jump, pop at various positions after a bit of use. It has a nice case and appears to have a bypass option for a straight throughput, though doesn't appear to have a shunt to ground set-up so impedance will vary more with volume position...

But now (2014) it uses other chinese switch, with very more quality, he told me yesterday.

Switch

Contact terminology

In electronics, switches are classified according to the arrangement of their contacts. A pair of contacts is said to be "closed" when current can flow from one to the other. When the contacts are separated by an insulating air gap, they are said to be "open", and no current can flow between them at normal voltages. The terms "make" for closure of contacts and "break" for opening of contacts are also widely used.

In a switch where the contacts remain in one state unless actuated, such as a push-button switch, the contacts can either be normally open (abbreviated "n.o." or "no") until closed by operation of the switch, or normally closed ("n.c." or "nc") and opened by the switch action. A switch with both types of contact is called a changeover switch. These may be "make-before-break" ("MBB" or shorting) which momentarily connects both circuits, or may be "break-before-make" ("BBM" or non-shorting) which interrupts one circuit before closing the other.
