Pink Faun Owners Thread

Quick question … I think I understand that the Pink Faun streamers rely on Roon to control playback? So no software alternatives if you don’t like Roon especially for local file playback? Appreciate any feedback here.

Thanks

George

Hi George - PF uses Roon to manage the music. Playback is done via PF software. Thx!

The knock against roon is that it provides less than optimal sound quality versus competitive software. I believe that is true in general. But from my experience with the PF Scion and the Grimm Mu1, these designers have managed to incorporate Roon into their OS while maintaining SQ at the highest level, imho, fwiw. David

I don't agree with your opinion of Roon sound quality. I had both Roon and Tidal at the same time and Roon always sounded better than the MQA sheep dipped albums on Tidal.

It’s because for Pink Faun, roon is just the UI. The code underneath is written in ARCH Linux. You access the back end through a browser.

for something that people claim is inferior almost all the top products use ROON. I personally like ROON, like using ROON and think ROON is an excellent system.

I still maintain, the Aurender using Conductor sounds better than switching it over to Roon. Try it. The only thing that changes is the software. Conductor sounds better than native Roon.

and it may be so however is that ROON or the implementation of ROON. WADAX uses ROON, PF uses ROON, CH uses ROON etc.
I think like everything else its not the part its the whole and the system of the whole. Choose wisely :)

Yes but…the roon for Pink Faun is written on top of their proprietary ARCH Linux software.

Mike, any thoughts on how Conductor sounds relative to Qobuz Connect?

I'll admit I could be unfairly biased against what I heard when trying out Roon ... I really just dont like the interface at all nor do I want one more subscription ... LOL. Just my 2c.

This is the first time I have heard someone say they don't like the Roon interface!
