so whats in a name? puroagave is my old handle from a now defunct tequila 'board, it just kinda stuck.

I'm broadening my horizons by joining AS and i'm impressed with what i've seen so far. Music and hi-fi have been a big part of my life from prepubescent me to the present middle-aged me. vinyl, tubes and 'stats are somehow part of my system most of the time but i can appreciate all types of equipment and enjoy the discovery of trying different gear (new and old).

here's hoping I don't put the proverbial foot in mouth too often, just let me know when my posts become annoying, my skin can take it.:snicker:

Of the ones I've tried I enjoy the following (Anejo's primarily)

I'm not well versed in all the different Tequila's, but I do love Don Julio 1942 !!
 
I know Rob from another forum and Rob is one of the good guys.

love those, they're fine tequilas. unfortunately, the meds I'm on put the kibosh on enjoying spirits. porfidio, el Tesoro/paradiso, chinaco etc were all mainstays in the past. I still enjoy patron even tho the tequila snobs left the brand when they went mainstream. cuervo has the distinction of producing both the very worst (1800) and some of the very best (reserva de la familia). I highly recommend cuervo RDLF for sipping, its also an anejo. tasting notes incl. vanilla, tobacco, caramel and spicy oak.
 
The el Tesoro/paradiso and Chinaco are on my list to try. I'm going down to Cancun in a few weeks and will look for them to bring back. The bars down there at our resort pretty much only stock Don Julio as their top shelf, and I'm not terribly fond of that. El Jimador is their regular stock, which is fine in a margarita, but not for sipping.
 
Bob, you need to try the Don Julio 1942,it's about $120 a bottle, but it's the smoothest best tasting sipping tequila I've ever had. Don't dismiss it because it's made by Don Julio.

Other Anejo tequilas to try are Corozon, Milagro Single Barrel,and the bargain priced Gran Centenario.

If it cost $120 a bottle, you better not dismiss it!
 
+1 on the Don Julio 1942. Very good Tequila. It has been my go to sipping Tequila for the last several years.
 
Every Saturday I try and make some Mexican food and I always make margaritas to go with the food. My favorite Mexican dish I make for the here and now is spicy Mexican shredded beef taquitos. I cook the beef overnight in a crockpot and early on Saturday morning I shred it with a fork and it just falls apart. I also make fresh (meaning homemade) Pico de Gallo to go with the shredded beef taquitos and trust me, they go together like a hand in a glove. I have tried lots of different margarita recipes, but here is my favorite:

4 oz of fresh squeezed lime juice
4 oz of triple sec
8 oz of Silver Patron tequila
1 tiny pinch of sugar

I squeeze the limes, add in the tiny pinch of sugar, add the triple sec, and then add the tequila. Shake vigorously and pour into your favorite margarita glass. I love a salted rim glass and my wife likes hers sans salt. We typically catch up on whatever shows we have recorded on our DVR on Saturday as we are enjoying our fresh made shredded beef taquitos, Pico de Gallo, and margaritas.
