Ortofon Cadenza Bronze or...?

Splendid! So musical with just a hint of warmth. I love it.

Good simple description Mike. Agree that the added hint of warmth is an accurate description. Acoustic instruments (in particular, strings and horns) are just killer with this cart!

Glad to hear that you are both so pleased with it! Hate to say I told you so, but I knew that you guys would enjoy it as much as I do. Besides providing such quiet tracking and exceptional musical reproduction, I find its value to be stunning in today's world of astronomically priced cartridges.

You are so correct sir! Thanks for your advice to purchase.

So impressive is the Cadenza Bronze, I ordered a Cadenza Mono this past week too! With the collection of mono LP's here, I'm looking forward to having a dedicated cart for their play.

I've read that the Cadenza Mono does best with more modern mono pressings from the latest 60's to current day (due to the fairly narrow stylus profile) and not quite as good with say, late 50's early 60's pressings.

Has anyone here experienced this difference of play due to pressing age with the Cadenza Mono?

I'm sorry that I don't have any experience with mono records or the Cadenza Mono to share with you, but I would suggest calling Ortofon US and asking them directly. Louis was extremely helpful to me when I was deciding which Cadenza model to go with and he helped steer me towards the Bronze. I found their advice to be very honest and straightforward, as they are also true music lovers at heart.

The Ortofon Cadenza series is ridiculously good. With so much BS in this fantastic industry, Ortofon is the real deal. The Bronze seems to have the perfect balance between transparency and musicality, a wonder cartridge that is still very affordable in high-end terms.

hey mark welcome to the shark!!! i agree 100%, i really did my "driving all over and listening" homework on value to sound before i bought my last cadenza blue, then i did it again before i got the black. it could just be my ears, but i think you get more for the $ with this line of cartridges than any of the big names that ive got a chance to listen to. grado excluded because i think their cartridges are great for the money spent too.

congrats on the mono mike!!!! hope you love it!!! im sure you will.

Wrong username

thats awesome i heard not all but a good portion of the top of the line cartridges out there, and out of them all the mc anna is where i would put my money....if i had that much money :)
it was so good i told the guy to take it off and put the black back on, because i didnt want to get a new cartridge and already be dreaming of another cartridge. lmao!!!
you have some nice carts there!!!

I own a cadenza black and used to own a blue(which I ran on a classic1). And did a lot of listening to the bronze on a classic 1 and aries3.
It is a very smooth well detailed cartridge. Lists at $2200 . For the money it's an excellent cartridge.and the best I've heard in that pricerange.
It is definitely the warmest of the cadenza line. . But it's not over the top warm .just real nice. and I don't think you can go wrong with it.
I've listened to a few dynavectors they were not for me. The ones I couldn't afford were awesome though. Lol.
For some reason the Ortofon cartridges appeal to me over others. It's a personal opinion but I think they are the best value as compared to similarly priced cartridges.
I've heard the shelter, lyra and clearaudio offerings as well . I really liked the shelters and lyras too. The clearaudio I think you need to spend more money to get the same quality. My choices were the black, the kleos, or the shelter 901. All were awesome and similar quality with different sound.
But I bought the Ortofon . Good luck!!!

Steve, I could not have said it better. Exactly my feelings.

Thanks Bill. I'm certain the Cadenza Mono will work famously for my application.

Still waiting on a dedicated VPI Classic arm wand to ship from VPI so I can mount the Mono cart separately though.

This cartridge is stunning!

I thought the Bronze was a quiet tracker with the mono records (and it really is, but)...the Mono specific Cadenza is in a whole other league for quiet tracking of mono LP's.

I've always read that a true mono cartridge is best to play mono records but thought I could just get by with stereo cartridges. Nope. So glad I made the move to go with a mono cartridge and separate arm wand.

Looking forward to how it will sound in 20 or so more LP's!

Great to hear Mike. She sure is a beauty. Do you swap arms, have two arms or multiple headshells or gasp....remount every time you want to switch?

nice mike!!! glad it worked out for you. with the amount of mono records you have, no doubt you needed a mono cart. congrats and enjoy it.

Thanks guys! I was up late last night spinning records and it was a blast.

Mike, I picked up an extra Classic arm wand as well. I realized I'd need a place to store them and found that the large format bottle wine crates' size work perfectly. I think these are Magnum (1.5L) size. One day I'll create matching foam inserts but for now this works quite well.

Something that I forgot to mention that I discovered when setting up a mono cart for the first time (for anyone that's interested):

Make sure you tweak your antiskate when dialing in your alignments. I struggled a little with an overly right-channel emphasis until I backed off the anti skate on my Classic arm during the first few LP's. The end result took a clockwise twist of the Lemo connector wire and disengagement of the antiskate mechanism altogether in order to get the image to center up.

Mike - I don't use anti skate. It was my understanding that Harry didn't believe in it for his tables. Thoughts?

Harry did indeed say that he only included the anti-skate mechanism because some customers requested the option. He does not think the unipivot arm needs antiskate.

I'm surprised that the arm does not come with a nice storage box. That is something VPI should think about offering, if only as a separate option if need be.
