Oppo dilemma

The Arcam350 does provide bass management. I am really sorry I do not understand the signal path Mike. Could you step me through again. I have a 5 year old Epson 1080 powerlite pro. It has one hdmi and one component connection.

Me?

Bill, your Epson front projector has only one HDMI input!

Ok then:

1. Connect the Oppo's (105 or 103) HDMI 1 Out to your Arcam HDMI In 1.
2. Connect the Arcam's HDMI Out to your Epson's HDMI In.
3. Select LPCM for the HDMI Audio (from your Oppo's Audio Format Setup menu).
4. Select 1080p for the Ouput Resolution (from your Oppo's Video Setup menu).
5. That's it! :)

* For more advanced settings (audio & video), in your particular case, using your Epson 1080p front projector, your Arcam AVR350 receiver (with two HDMI inputs, version 1.1), and your future new Oppo Blu-ray player (in your particular case I recommend the 103, because the 105's main adventage is its advanced analog section, and its DAC section; which you may benefit, or not, depending of your setup), I'm always right here.

Bill, your Epson projector; which model is it? ...The PowerLite Pro Cinema 1080p UB, or the Powerlite HomeCinema 1080p UB, or another model?

P.S. Sorry for the delay but my computer was shut down for some 'security' repairs/maintenance.

Pretty sure its just called powerlite pro cinema 1080

Not important at all really; I was just curious.

Anyway Bill, the simple connections from above should work in your situation.
So the switching is simple, only two HDMI inputs from your Arcam AVR350 receiver.

BUT! Again, both the Oppo 103 and 105 have TWO HDMI Inputs! ...So you can connect two more sources if you do indeed have more than just two sources at present.
- And that way you can take advantage of the top-notch video processor (Marvell's Kyoto-G2H with the latest Qdeo technology) of the Oppo 103 player.
And of course, from your Arcam receiver you have the pass-thru hi-def HDMI picture.

Is everything so far makes sense to you?

_______________

Because you have an Epson front projector from roughly five years ago (around $3,000 MSRP),
an older Arcam receiver (circa 2008), with only two HDMI inputs (version 1.1);
I recommend that you get the Oppo BDP-103 ($499) for 'system symetry/synergy/integrity' purpose to your own particular situation.
{The Oppo 105 would be a better match with a more advanced hi-res system, I think.}

___________

And in the future, when you upgrade your front projector, you'll be ready (4K, 4D, and 4AAAAs). ;):)

* Arcam is nice. :) ...Sound wise.

Sorry what do you mean when you say "only two hdmi inputs from your arcam"?

Now I understand. I can connect the oppo to one hdmi in on the arcam. I can connect source 2 to the other hdmi in. I can use the oppo hdmi source in for source 3 and source 4. So I can have 4 sources. (more than I need). The 103 would be fine for my theatre room I believe. I unfortunately will have to integrate it into my crestron which means "must call the cable guy". As I said so many times....wish I had windows simpl so I could program the crestron myself. Thanks for your help Bob and others

Yes, you got it.

Now, the two HDMI inputs from your Arcam receiver, they are version 1.1
So, LPCM from the Oppo, for the hi-res audio (HDMI Audio),
and PCM for SACD (SACD Output).
- Both part of the Audio Format Setup.

* Oppo is a smart company; they designed their players to be compatible with ALL systems (newest and legacy ones). ...Even with the pre/pros or receivers without any HDMI connection at all; the Oppos have two HDMI inputs (one that connects directly to the display, for picture, with 3D, and the other to the receiver or pre/pro, for the audio), and have also multichannel analog audio out, with full bass management, for pre/pros or receivers without any HDMI jacks.
So no matter what you have, the Oppos will always match up. ...And now they give you even more by adding two HDMI inputs, for extra sources, and even a high-end DAC/preamp (Oppo 105). ...And three USB ports. ...Headphone preamp/amp too, using one of the two hi-end ESS Sabre32 DACs (two DACs for the Left channel, and two DACs for the Right channel, with its own Volume level control).

There is simply NO Oppo dilemma. ...To the exact contrary! They are full-fledged jet planes in a stealth armored plated jacket with a total controlled featured cockpit. ...And gold on its back. ...XLR Stereo of course (105).

You are right there really is no dilemma. My sources right now for my Arcam350 are (1) Request N music server (nice setup and it is hooked to my crestron so I get nice remote displays of music but I do not listen to music in theatre room anymore since establishing my 2-channel room elsewhere) (2) satellite tv which I just disconnected because I could not see having both satellite and cable (3) cable tv (4) xbox which I use for Netflix
(5) computer hooked into system (rarely used). My understanding is that oppo does netflixs, dvd, blueray so I can actually remove those boxes which would leave me with the Request music server, cable, oppo as my sources. Is this correct?

The Oppo does Blu-ray, DVD (Audio & Video), SACD, CD, HDCD, DSD streaming, Netflix, and a zillion of other audio and video streamings, with a Roku option. Like I said, it's a stealth jet! ...It is a one unit to kill all the other flying choppers around. ...The Oppo is the complete mean machine to abide by.

And now its also a DAC, and a preamp, and a headphone amp! ...Oppo 105.

Tomorrow, it'll have integrated amps and speakers inside the box! ...Well, perhaps not, but I'm sure it'll have a sophisticated Room EQ Correction system.

Yes, but until it spins vinyl, it is severely handicapped...LOL...Just teasing

You are very convincing. So now lets choose which oppo for the theatre room. You know my receiver and projector. If I do not listen to 2 channel in this room would it make any sense to get the 105 if I am not going to use the DAC? I should just get the 103 right? And does the 103 offer advantages to getting a 93 or 95 to go with my legacy arcam? (is getting legacy oppo just stupid?) Next question what % of your movies are blueray? (Bob_)

Convincing? No; just some solid knowledge. ...And with a good education mixed for even solider solidification. :)

Get the 103 Bill; that's the one for your particular use.

The 103 gives you two HDMI Inputs, which in your case could be extremely beneficial, and a dual-core video processor (faster, and better, more advanced than the one in the 93 and 95). ...The 103, is definitely the one for you.

All my recent movies (from 2006) are strictly Blu-rays. ...Before that they were all DVDs. ...And before that all VHS.
- Approaching 4,000 Blu-ray movies. ...DVD movies? ...5,000 plus, but very very rarely will I watch one of those (perhaps once or twice a year). Started acquiring them in 1997 (around Fall time).

If I may...

Many people watch movies from streaming them, or from cable/satellite providers. Those are not hi-def and hi-res like the physical Blu-ray movies themselves.

Just thought of mentioning it. ...Everyone chooses how they are going to live their life, and who they are going to spend it with.
That's freedom of choice, and acceptance of compromising. ...For the worst, and for the best.

We're all here for a reason. :) ...We come to this world (born), we live, and then we all die soon or later. ...That's life.
And everything else between is our hobbies, our loves, and all that jazz.

4000 Blu-rays Holy S$$$$$T!!!!! What type of media server do you have and what is your control system?

No media server, no cable, no satellite TV, no nothing but music and movies from the best digital physical mediums.

I just pick a movie, or music, and put it in one of my players that's all.

This too: When the video stores were all closing in my area, I acquired several Blu-ray movies for not much money; perhaps around 1,500 of those second-hand ones (anywhere from $3 to $10 a piece). ...But many others that I purchased brand new, I paid $30, $40, $50 and even more for some of them trilogies and all. ...$100 and more.

Some people buy a car for $500,000.
Me, I just rent my own chauffeur to drive me all around, even off-road, where that $500,000 car wouldn't even dare to go!

Like I said; we all have our own ways with our lives. ...At the end it's whatever makes us happy. :)
* I envy no one.
