Opinions on TAD CR-1 vs Magico S1 ? ....

Agree. Q series to me was too resolute.

I keep hearing the Q series is too detailed. Has anyone heard it with a high powered tube setup like with VAC or CJ gear? I keep seeing Q series matched with Constellation, Soulution etc... Just curious what that combination would sound like.

I've heard them with VAC and had ARC and D'Agostino with my Q1s and as I've said many times. The Q series truly does nothing wrong. The perfect speaker but they just are boring to me. And yes the amps make a difference but still boring. Solution actually wakes them up some.

Hi Joe,

I would get the S5 and raidho D2 in for home audition (a magico S3 would have been perfect but does not exist unfortunately :P). I'm sure you have some excellent dealer relationships by now, so this should be doable.

I think the CR1 will be a tough act to beat personally but you may prefer the slightly different presentation of Raihdo or Magico. Both of these will work awesome on your DartZeel and CJ gear.

Good luck.

(A joeind CR1 vs S1/S5 vs D2 thread would be an awesome read!)

As if by magic, Magico has just introduced the S3 speaker.

Here is some info that I received:

"Like the currently available S1 and S5, the new Magico S3 ($22,600/pair) uses an acoustic-suspension enclosure with a concealed refinement: a polycarbonate subenclosure for its midrange driver, whose combination of advanced materials as well as specially developed shape are said to "create the ideal acoustic properties and control for a subenclosure in a loudspeaker cabinet." The S3's contoured extruded-aluminum cabinet is 16" in diameter with 1/2" curved sidewalls that minimize diffraction effects, resonance and the need for internal damping. The S3 uses the same MB30 beryllium tweeter and MB390 midwoofer that Magico uses for the S5 along with a pair of newly developed 8" woofers. The S3 is said to deliver the lowest octave of bass combined with both the speed and accuracy for which Magico is known.
The S3's impedance is quoted as 4 ohms, and its bandwidth is 26Hz–50kHz. Recommended power is between 50 and 500 watts. Each S3 weighs 150 pounds and measures 48”H x 14”D x 12”W. Like its siblings in the S series, the S3 is available in over a dozen finishes."

Arnie and Joost,

I am seriously looking at S5's. I think they will be a much better version of my Studio2 and different than my TADs.
