On my Lordy, Nelson: X250.8 in situ

Thanks Keith, that is absolutely correct.

While watts do not equal watts in my experience, meaning different manufacturers and technical concepts are able to leverage their power reserves with varying efficiency, I think my Magicos do indeed enjoy the spare 150 wpc on tap. There is just an ease and immediacy to the music which is very nice. In a way a feeling of limitless power and the amp is also really fast, which I like.

While I think especially the latest generation of Magicos have become easier to drive, and you do not anymore require an arc welder to run them, power still does not hurt. I would argue though, that this is true for any high-end LS. You can run them with lesser power, but more is nicer.

There was a very nice thread on the Sharks forum recently discussing power requirements to serve peaks and transients. From the measurements it became evident that even if you are listening at moderate levels as I usually am, using 15-30 wpc on a continuous basis, there are dynamic peaks going up to 500 wpc. This is what I hear with the Pass now, it does not run out of steam and offers seemingly unlimited power reserves. As a result music is played with a nice ease and flow.

Great description of the ease of power supply from an amp. Nice to find an amp that gives you something new that you've never had before in realising a synergy that in your system, is indeed very special. Hope you enjoy it big long time.

Appreciate it! And you can imagine I do indeed enjoy it, quite a bit actually [emoji3].

This earlier thread on the Sharks forum helped me to appreciate the need for more power. It was also one reason why I wanted an amp with a bit more headroom, even though I did not feel constrained with the previous one and hardly turned it up more than 1/3.

Man that’s a good looking system!

It really is stunning looking and I bet the sound does the looks more than justice!

Thanks Mike, a nice thing to say.

I think you have at least five of them (3 in the store, 1-2 or more at home) [emoji3].

Thanks AJR, appreciate it. The Pass keeps getting better and better warming up after the transport (just as Sharkmouth indicated it would).

How are your S3 mk2s coming, when can we see some pictures?

Anyone who is in direct reach of Master Pass, please be so kind to convey my gratitude for his decades long study of circuits and the resulting music marvel. Simply outstanding.

Congratulations on your amp!

Nelson Pass' email address is [email protected]
I've had a friendly exchange with him myself over my excellent Pass B1 passive buffered preamp.

My S3 mk2s have over 500 hours on them now and they are singing. I just can’t wait to hear how they sound being powered by the Diablo 300 or the INT-250. Will know later this month (touch forehead) when my dealers get a demo in.

After hearing the X350.8 with the ARC Ref 6 the other day I started thinking about going down the path of a separate pre and power amp, but after realising the significant additional cost, I have gone back to the integrated option.

My INT-60 does a great job with my S3Mk2......I am more of a medium volume person. I would like to have more power to ensure I’m not missing dynamics though.
I am a huge fan of the Pass labs aesthetics and performance plus they are US made.
I’m trying to warm up to the Diablos looks but I may go with Int250 or maybe separates with a Pass xp12 and X-250.8 or 350.8 I know any of these choices will blow my socks off.
The Diablo 300 is a great buy and perhaps the better unit, put the point is moot...my wallet is recovering from the Magico’s money disappearing act!

Larry, I don’t think you can go wrong with any Pass amp. The larger ones will add more grunt.

Did you btw see the positive mention the INT60 received as finalist + runner up for Stereophile 2017 amp of the year? Nice honor.

PS: I don’t think it is too much of a shame either to be second compared to the Boulder 1000 wpc Class A beast worth the mere pocket change of $99,000.-. Wonder when Mike will have that one in the candy shop...[emoji23].

The Pass X250.8 is back from service: new gen 2 front end (D boards) and bias + DC offset adjusted. Sounds wonderful.

good to 'hear' all is well with X250.8, as Mike and others have said great looking set up. One thing, try, if you're able, to move your speakers another foot or two forward. It will, without question do wonders for your soundstage, which, as pictured is somewhat compromised.

Hi Dave, I think the photo perspective does not show the actual setup very well. There is about four feet to the back wall behind the speakers.

OK, I was looking at your pic in the beginning of the thread, there's no way that's 4', so if you've moved 'em out a couple more feet that's great for they need air to breath !

I agree, they need space to breathe. The wide angle picture distorts the depth a bit.
