On a scale of 1 to 10...

Is that relative the sound of real music or enjoyment? :)

I think everyone should hear the big NOLAs, Magicos or the old Infinity IRS Vs to get an idea of what a speaker system can really accomplish.

Anyway, I'm a hard grader. 6-1/2.

8 - Missing would be upgrading the DAC (candidates: Berkeley Ref, MSB, DCS) and Pre (D'Agostino). Also, considering the Lumin S-1.

I rated 9 for happiness/enjoyment. If I were to rank comparatively to other brand solution/combinations, my score would be lower.

Myles, I think the OP was talking about your own personal satisfaction.

7.5 not thrilled since we moved to this big freaking home. Ceilings 20+ feet and wide open I need more power, bigger speakers and more money.

LoL...We all wish for more space and then we get it and then all the system dynamics change.... Bigger room, bigger everything. Chris, your new journey has just begun. Keep us updated. :)

10.

Yet I still have a few more tweaks to add, and thanks to CD ( Chris ), I'm finding contentment with my little Astell & Kern portable until I've a clearer vision of what to pursue as a music server in the new year. Anyways.............., back to enjoy the music, as there are times it's just extremely hard to do anything else besides - listen.

I would like to have a house with multiple music rooms. One all tubes and high efficiency speakers. Another with Maggies 20.7 and big SS amps. And final one with my current setup. Then I could add my scores up.

So this is pretty interesting. Does 10 mean it can't get any better? Or does it just mean that you can't get any happier even if the system does get better?

Does a 10 eliminate the urge to upgrade? I suspect not.

Don't know about anyone else, but I was interpreting 10 as meaning satisfied at this time feeling no need to upgrade.

For both system and dedicated listening room 110%

Your question was based on happiness, which I consider very right brain.

If you question was more left brain based, such as, "Objectively, how would you rate your system out of 10 - with 10 being the greatest system you have ever heard - for comparison purposes?" - then people - even with amazing systems - could stop and think about a new phono cable here, a new USB cable there, etc.

9.5 for me. I love what I have, best system for me ever. But, I'm a tinkerer by nature, will never be 100% satisfied. Big change for me this year was speakers.... Next year will be the pursuit of the perfect amplifier partner.

Oh, come now. My brain hasn't been right for a long time.....oh, wait a minute, that's the other right.:P
I was going to say "except me" because it frightens me to think in that direction, but even I could come up with something to wonder about changing or something.
