OMG - WHAT? WHAT?

I hope Bose drains the swamp over there at Mc. Mc has become the equivalent of the deep state of audio. I hope Lila Snyder cleans house.

Maybe Bose will help them figure out how to make the McIntosh 901 amps (not the Bose Speakers) so they won't keep blowing up?

Looks like Highland Partners, the PE firm that owned a majority stake in McIntosh got the exit they were looking for.

My crystal ball is pretty foggy on this one but I see a lot more McIntosh in car audio.

Speaking of car audio, wasn't McIntosh owned by Clarion for a period of time some 30 or so years ago?
You are correct. I remember Mac did have some car audio in the past, head unit and amps.

I remember seeing a cool roadster owned by one of the Infinity reps years back with a Mac head unit and all Infinity amps and speakers.

It's not just in the past; McIntosh and Sonus faber currently provide the audio components for Maserati and Lamborghini. I know this for a fact because during Monterey Car Week in August, I interviewed the McIntosh and Sonus faber executives about the designs and systems used in these cars for the audio publication I write for. I auditioned first-hand the audio systems in these cars, and their audio performance and ability to create an actual soundstage within the car was impressive. Here's the Lamborghini Revuelto I heard one of the systems in (BTW, these are all my photos).

Totally agree. My guess is that Bose will offer (and charge more of course) the MC systems to higher tier car brands. It is actually a smart move by Bose. And it will be good for MC as well because MC will be able to tap resources from the bigger company and hopefully grow the MC brand.

Back in blue collar land, my reference of McIntosh in cars is the Jeep - I believe some Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer models. Not sure who makes the speakers in these systems, but maybe someone here knows.

If I were a less honest man, I might go to the Jeep dealer and get a test drive just to see what all of this McIntosh hubbub is about...and if I were even less honest still, I might never return to the lot.

Problem is that my car will not die - it's a 2008 Grand Marquis that at 130K miles is showing no signs of slowing down, so I guess I'll have to wait to start thinking about a new car. (Not a terrible problem I guess, all things considered.)

I was talking about after market not OEM. I was aware of the OEM still going on. It's funny to me to see some brands in OEM that offer nothing in after market. I have to wonder if it's just selling the name.

OEM audio is where the money is at. Bose makes about a billion dollars in revenues from OEM. Harmon even more. You are not making that kind of cash in the increasingly niche aftermarket.

I believe Alpine makes the present hardware for the Jeep/McIntosh systems.

Not sure that I understand. Are you saying that Alpine makes the McIntosh branded hardware in the Jeep/McIntosh systems? I've heard elsewhere that they do indeed make the speakers (not sure if this true for all levels of the McIntosh systems, which vary by Jeep model if I understand correctly).

But are you saying that the head unit and amps are also not actual McIntosh hardware?

If this is the case, the way that McIntosh advertises the system is clearly misleading. Whether it happens all of the time is another story....

p.s. I've had several Alpine car systems over the years and I'm a big fan of the brand.
