Nord One Up Ncore NC500 amps, Class D ready for prime time .....

Colin takes care of his customers…..He ripped out these boards from an amp he had ready to ship just to send out to me. I will be listening this weekend. I hope this will be a great Nord Christmas. :congrats:

Blimey give us chance he only ordered them on the 11-12-18 and we have been inudated with upgrade orders, however I bust a gut and shipped them on express to the US on Friday thay are out for delivery today, so we all wait with baited breath!

I had a bad Rev C board early on that Colin replaced and the swap was pretty simple. Four screws and a couple of connectors.

Super easy install. The layout is slightly different so you need to reposition the wiring a little. Initial impressions are impressive. I had doubts this would topple the Nord 1200as amps but I think Colin has bested himself.

Pretty easy install? I'll wait for some feed back before I get my.

Speech to text doesn’t work that great sometimes. I’m using a pair of Ice-1200AS2 too been very happy with them, my Nord one up went to the HT.

Have you had a chance to compare the 2 amps?

Disclaimer these are my “opinions” based on my system synergy and my listening room.

The NC500 REV D sounded like shit for the first 45 minutes. Came into their own after about 2 hours. No major noticeable changes after.

Rev D are more rounder with more presence. More detail retrieval without sounding more detailed. Bombastic bass, same music cut things rattle and shake that don’t with the 1200as.

1200as more lean but not thin. Great bass but not as authoritative as the Rev D. Excellent amps with a more “airy” presence.

Both amps are amazing in their own right. I could easily live with either.

Amps of comparison from memory are the REF 75 with KT150, Rogue ST100, custom Scott Nixon tube/fet hybrids. All still in my possession.

Marty thanks for the info, I will get the new rev-D next year, I'll use them in the HT for a while and then my 2ch system. Sometimes I like to change things up just for a different/unique sound not necessarily a better sound.

Switched back to the Nord 1200as, sad to say it is a disappointment. I need to live with the NC500 REV D for a month or so and see if they wear thin. TBC

Thanks Marty for evaluating the Rev D.

I think I am going to go ahead with them now. My system tends a little toward the lean side and I was thinking of putting the Sparkos in the Rev C before hearing about Rev D. I won't get all the benefit perhaps because my MartinLogans have powered woofers under 300hz, but the rest of the improvements hopefully will be enough to make it worthwhile.
