New Vintage Audio Restoration HQ

The 807 is a 6L6 with a plate cap instead of the plate being connected to the base. This allowed it to run much higher plate Voltages without arcing.

What amp do you run that uses those?
 
Going to be comparing some of my favorite French tubes vs new Italians, and replacing an RCA rectifier with an Italian one as well!

I have to clean it up and do something about the smell of the paper rolls, which are again like an old cabin in the woods. I' not sure if I will repaint the cabinet. I has a bit of rust on it where the paint was worn off. The main cosmetic fix seems to be replacing the glass on the meter, which is missing a shard. That's something I've done before so I'm on solid ground with that. But it really needs cleaning- my hands smell like mold just from touching it.

Wipe all but the paper roll with vinegar and water towel as a way to remove the moldy smell to some extent that isn't a harsh chemical that will remove finish. May take several applications. Let me know if you need product recommendations at that point. Also take the case off, clean inside with vinegar and water (way and let stay on for a bit), then spray with KILLZ on the inside of the unit. That is a big help and will help absorb some of the smell from the wires.

Oddly, the name plate is mounted upside down. If I get the cabinet repainted I might correct that.

Take the tube paper roll out, stick in a large bag that is filled with baking soda at the bottom, close, and let it sit for a week or two at least. Also clean the roll unit itself with vinegar and water. That should help as well.

You will need to heavily decontaminate the outside of the case to help attack the smell. It is permeated every where and can be a chore to remove.

Also don't overlook the plastic knobs on the unit - they retain quite a bit of smell.
