Howard is building The Listening Chair’s new, ultra-high performance Sound Lab. Nestled amongst nature away from the hustle and bustle of the city, it will serve as our sonic headquarters and provide a dedicated environment to conduct product reviews and auditions, create pre-recorded videos and livestreams, and photograph audio gear.
Designed by Malekpour Design Partners, the Sound Lab is an immense and complex project that will result in an acoustically-treated, soundproofed structure weighing several tons. It will feature a suspended “room in a room” design with floating walls, floor, and ceiling that are each two-feet thick and composed of many layers of proprietary and other construction materials. The Lab will also feature a dedicated, extremely low-noise, ducted HVAC system and custom lighting. When the Sound Lab is finished, AV products will be able to operate there with as little influence by the room on the sound possible. The space will also be visually compelling as it has been designed in earth tones to provoke a calm and inviting listening environment.
