New Table

Spent the day at audio shops today. Steve - the one common was that the Triplanar arm was not that good. I need to do more research. I heard some crazy ass rigs today. Went to one guy who does nothing but R2R stuff, mods, repairs, rebuilds, etc. Heard a $3200 completely rebuilt Revox PR99 mk2 with Studer heads (obviously) which is modded to be used simply as a R2R Transport (never heard of that huh?) via XLR outputs direct from some specific internal part (forgot the name) and run into a tube $2000 deHavilland 222 R2R Tape Head Amp (like a phonostage, but for R2R) and it mopped the floor with R2R's costing $20k plus that we compared. Source was an original Dan Steely Aja. Amazing.

Best vinyl rig I heard today was:

A Verdier Table
morch DP8 arm and a
Transfiguration Prodius Cart

I heard so many crazy ass tables. Wow.

Would love to by the r2r and head amp. Would dealer sell it out of state?

Love the 401, it's my favourite of all the classics.

An Ikeda 407 arm would be perfect on one of those with an Ortofon SPU. Hmmmm my next project?

Darrin - this other deck I loved is the route Myles went.

Peter can probably better answer that... been a while, from what I recall, two tables, one just under 10k, one in the mid teens. That was some time ago... pre-reviews. I understand prices have gone up since then. For me, that's one reasonably priced table that checks all the boxes. I like mass loaded non-suspended tables with good motors. You put them on a Vibraplane/Minus K, and you can get top notch performance from them.

In a nutshell, I had a brief listen, was impressed... I'm usually NOT, lol
