New Table

I still love the original kronos, though it's pretty big so you would need lots of shelf space. not so crazy bout the sparta aesthetics. I like the AMG though for it's simple, solid design.
 
Kronos - The counter rotating platters are a great idea, but only in the perfect world. If the platters are not absolutely perfectly balanced and round it will make things worse rather than better, I think.

But seeing the second platter spin the other direction may be worth the price of admission. It is a unique, beautiful and wonderfully made product. I am sure it probably sounds awesome. I just can't help myself in questioning some designs. Same goes for the AMG and the arm's vertical spring bearing unable to track warped records - it's the opposite of what's required. But again in the perfect world with flat records the arm bearing is probably the reason why it sounds good. Another unique, beautiful and wonderfully crafted product.

The bottom line is an analog product is a compromise, choosing the right compromise is the fun part. I love all tables, fun stuff.

That's it in a nutshell. :)

I think nowadays, advances in material science is helping designers minimize many compromises. For instance, the type of machining tolerances available to table manufacturers wasn't available a decade or so ago. It will be interesting to see how 3D printing technology will impact table design.

The clamping system will fix most warped records except the really bad ones, not a big deal. I should have said that in post sorry. it's a great table especially the arm (on flat records!)

A small washer underneath the record and then the clamp creates a convex shape flattening the edges of the record to the platter very similar to Oracle who I believe did this first followed by others like SME and Brinkmann.

Find a nice Garrard or Thorens on ebay, send it to Artisan Fidelity for an overhaul, hook up some tube amps, pour a stiff cocktail, sit back and enjoy!

Yes, the clamp works exceptionally well at this. The REALLY warped records with a divot or canyon near thr rim may not get flattened but i have had no tracking issues at all luckily. Maybe just playing flatter records ? :)

Yes I posted about the 301&401 previous page :) I told him about this exact TT it's in the store call My kind of music who knows about the analog in and out. Last time I heard this TT was about 4 yrs ago and I was shocked. ( it was playing on Quad ESL 57 with tube - Lovely combination ).
