New Table

Since you already have a VPI, i would get a restored Garrard with OMA slate plinth. Add a Shick tonearm and youre set.

I am running a Miyajima zero mono cartridge on the "12 Shick arm. Amazing quality for a super low price relative to comp.

That's the GrooveMaster from PBN Audio, a very nice design which uses several components sourced from VPI.

Yes that is correct. This particular one uses all the internals from a VPI CLASSIC DIRECT DRIVE with a beefed up power supply . It uses a solid Ebony plinth that is comprised of no fewer than 40 sections , both vertically and horizontally aligned. STILLPOINTS are used to maximize the isolation from the surface it sits on. It is one AMAZING table.

Any idea is MSRP? How's the stock SME 312 arm?

The table doesn't come with an arm. The MSRP is 35k. The 312 SME is very good. I do however want to try VPI's 3D "Print"Arm. You can see a brief write up on this table at ANALOGUE PLANET under Show report , "The Show" Newport 2014.

Spiral Groove SG 1.1 turntable w Centroid tonearm. Welcome to Spiral Groove ($35,000) with arm..

Thanks. Is it just me, or shouldn't they look a little less commercial for $35,000?

Also - what's the difference between the SG 1.1 vs SG 1 (which I can get for about $12k used).

Mike i never heard the sg 1.1. but i have heard the sg1 on several occasions and the sg2/triplanar. which is the best value, and a great table for less money. yes they are very pedestrian looking ,but simpler is better theory applies here. check out a new sg2/triplanar, would go great with that lp-s. you really dont need to break the bank to get a great table these days. and with a great arm and great cartridge, its as good as just about anything out there.

Thanks Steve. I will check it out. Still have my heart set on Kronos....but I'm heavily researching other options just to be sure. Listening to the Brinkmann a few days ago was an eye opener. Smoking nice table. The one thing I noticed was that the dealer was using a Dynavector cartridge - I've always been a fan of Dyna carts and miss mine.

Why no love for Kronos? Seems like that one that got "stuck" in audiogon scared people.

Mike, thats a good question..I've only been around the SG1.1. I would think they both share the bayonet arm and the heavy stainless platter and motor mounting assembly.

Mike here is your answer from Spiral Grove

"The SG1.1 has upgraded feet, motor pulley and an improved damping system between the upper and lower body layers. Other changes are related to internal things that effect manufacturing and assembly but do not effect performance."

Hmmm...thanks for looking that up! Greatly appreciated.

SME 20/12 with the V12 and an MC Anna

And if you can afford it a 30/12. You probably won't keep it long enough to care, but its a table for life that will always be able to be serviced properly. SME is such a class act company, I have so much respect for them.

nice Mark!!! heard a 30/12 and was very impressed, and sme just came down on price alot from previous models.

oh btw i just cant help myself.lmao!!!! 101.2 the new black ugly duckling with triplanar.
i love these 3 footed strange looking tables, black even more than mine.lol.

Spent the day at audio shops today. Steve - the one common was that the Triplanar arm was not that good. I need to do more research. I heard some crazy ass rigs today. Went to one guy who does nothing but R2R stuff, mods, repairs, rebuilds, etc. Heard a $3200 completely rebuilt Revox PR99 mk2 with Studer heads (obviously) which is modded to be used simply as a R2R Transport (never heard of that huh?) via XLR outputs direct from some specific internal part (forgot the name) and run into a tube $2000 deHavilland 222 R2R Tape Head Amp (like a phonostage, but for R2R) and it mopped the floor with R2R's costing $20k plus that we compared. Source was an original Dan Steely Aja. Amazing.

Best vinyl rig I heard today was:

A Verdier Table
morch DP8 arm and a
Transfiguration Prodius Cart

I heard so many crazy ass tables. Wow.
