Just a quick note about your new moderator. I've known "CD" for a long time now through various forums and many email exchanges discussing our mutual love of hifi. In my opinion you could not have selected a better moderator for the site. Chris is level headed and always posts thoughtfully with concern for others. He also consistently contributes thought provoking posts that spur passionate exchanges among forum members. I know this site has many excellent contributors already, but increasing the amount of engaging content is always a plus and I'm confident Chris will help in this regard. Additionally, I am sure that the wide experience of current hifi Chris brings to the site will benefit other members. I know of few audiophiles that have home auditioned as much gear as Chris. Actually, I know of none. : )

But...no matter what the impetus; I was hooked.

However...not just a music-lover, does an audiophile make. I love me some kit too! Were I had the time and money...I'd try it ALL (or at least as much as Joe? :disbelief:). Kilo-watt of class-D muscle (Hypex, of course); good! Flea-watt 300B SET; good! Class-A biased mono-blocks? Very good!! And oh yeah; pre-amps, DACs...and let's not forget the speakers. Big ones, little ones; it's all good.

So...I'm looking forward, to talking LOTS of shop with you gents. Just don't ask me jack about Vinyl; I've been digital and discless, for over 10 years now. :P

I would like to thank Mike and Joe...for their support, and confidence; even if it sounds, as if it's a thankless task. :huh:

That's a joke, of course. I may not have many posts here...but I have lurked, and from what I can tell; the forum lives up to its billing. I'm happy to be a part of the group, and look forward...to stirring-up and re-igniting some of the threads!

Hi Chris,

I was in Low-Fi up until around my mid twenties. I had to save up to get into Mid-fi stuff and to this day I have to save up for any item 3 digits and up, but that's ok, it makes it harder, but also more worth it because it forces one to research and really get to know what they want to purchase and such. So I know where you came from...I'm kind of still there only now I've moved up the ladder a little (recently) thanks to the wonderful folks here and all the info and help I have received. I was Mid-fi up until only a year ago (that's 30+ years)! Now I finally have some decent gear and even a couple of pieces considered "high-end" or reference even though the price tag does not denote it. For me though, if it makes beautiful music, it's good, period.
I'm the only non-audiophile here in the tank, but the kindness of Mike and Joe and lots of other folks here allow this goldfish to swim around and contribute as best he can. I'm not into gear as much as others, I like to just stick with what works for me and not travel much. Of course, I can't afford 99% of it anyway, but I also recently upgraded my modern system (just one more piece to go) and I'm happy. The "upgrade need/bug" due to gear failure in some cases, has been satisfied now for me and should keep me going for many years. My passion is the music (not that I don't like to see pretty pieces of gear, there is an appreciation for that as well), but music is it for me. Of course, I want good reproduction of said music in whatever medium I have, but that does not make me an audiophile.
Don't worry about having no vinyl. In my world there is room and purpose for all formats. I have 1000+ CDs and a Squeezebox Touch (Best thing Logitech ever came out with and of course they killed it after only 2 years because it was too popular and good...well, let's not get me started on that rant). I gave up half my very small library of vinyl in the early 80s when CDs flooded the market and only got back into vinyl about 4 years ago. I have more vinyl now than I ever did and still a very small collection, but it's fun. I love it, just something about it, but of course I also grew up with it. You have to want to do it though as it is a bit of work.
For serious listening I go to CD and Vinyl, for research and casual listening I go to streaming and such and CD as well at times. I just like the music, that's where it's at for me.

This site really does live up to it's mission! I was frightened at first when I joined and a bit skeptical (probably for good reason), Mike can attest to that. In what seemed a short time though I found and experienced things here I only thought happened in imagination. I've been helped so much here, I'm at a loss for how to show my appreciation and return the kindness sometimes. I just try to do what I can.
