Hi

I currently have a pair of Focal clear MG headphones and have the chance to purchase a McIntosh MHA200 but the valves (12BH7A) need replacing could anyone recommend which make and the best place to get them I’m based in the UK.
Thanks.

Hello,
I have an MHA 200 and a big box full of tubes that I’ve tried. :)

Tubes really matter for the MHA 200. It’s worth experimenting a bit to find the sound that complements your headphones.

Here are my top picks:
In current production:
For the 12AT7’s. Gold Lion reissues
TAD 12BH7A Redbase

Out of production:
For the 12AT7’s Siemens E81CC
For the 12BH7A RCA long black plates

I am currently running Gold Lion 12AT7’s and RCA 12BH7. The Siemens and TAD combo is also excellent.

I also have the Mullard CV4004 which would work well with the TAD 12BH7A’s.

Let me now if you have any questions.

Tom

Can recommend some well known replacement tubes such as JJ 12BH7A Preamp Tube, 12BH7A Speziellselektierte Röhre TAD or also Electro‑Harmonix 12BH7 Amp Tube. You can usually find these from tube retailers in the UK or EU, just make sure the physical size is correct and they are tested before use
