Hello all,
I've heard a bit about this site for a while, even more so recently, so figured I'd go ahead and join up. You can't have too many good hifi forums to be a part of!
Music and audio equipment is pretty much in my blood. I was born into it so to speak. All I remember as a small child was classical music, reel to reel decks, huge Klipsch Cornwall speakers, and of course, turntables. My father always had the stereo going, but he never played it loud, and always played pipe organ music or orchestral music, so as a kid, I appreciated it, but I really didn't "appreciate" it.
Then my oldest brother came home from the Army with a Carver C1 preamp, M400-t amp, a TX-11 tuner, Nakamichi DRAGON, Denon DP-62, and a pair of JBL L112's. After setting up his system, he put on Phil Collins' Hello, I Must Be Going album... First track being "I Don't Care Anymore".
He had me sit down in the sweet spot, he cranked up the volume and let 'er rip. Once that Stanton 981HZS touched down on the vinyl, it was all over for me. Hearing those drums cut through the room, feeling the bass smack though my body, seeing those red LED's on the M400-t jump around, and seeing the lights constantly dim in the room to the beat of the music at what I thought at the time as concert volumes, I was in love. Experiencing music like this for the very first time, this powerful and loud, and with such an excellent and exciting song, I knew right then and there I was hooked for life!
Growing up, I received hand-me-downs from my father and all three of my brothers. Then when I got my first job, I started saving up for equipment I could call my very own. It's been non-stop ever since. And I have been telling my oldest brother for years now that when I have the room and money, I am going to recreate that system of his, or at least most of it. That system influenced me that much!
I've had countless equipment over the past 20+ years with systems ranging from small and simple to oversized and uncalled for to flat out rude and crude to multi-channel. All of which have always been centered around 2-ch. And now my current system which is a bit more mature and definitely the best sounding by far, with the best gear by far.
I look forward to hangout out around here!
