Tube compliment:

8 x SED 6550C in V8, V9, V10, V11
6 x Tesla E83C in V3 and V5
4 x Mullard CV4024 Copper Plates in V2 and V6
4 x 18ECC in V1 and V7
2 x Mullard throw away 12AX7's in V4 (not in the signal path but needed for the amp to work)

With this tube compliment - oh my.....these amps are on another level. The Tesla tubes make the 275's add some tremendous bass.

These amps are incredibly musical.

I had a pair of them in my system for a while. Great little amp, beautiful too. Audio jewelry.

I like the way you do things Mike. Immediately pull the stock tubes and put in the good stuff! I remember Nikolay saying those 6550's were some of the best ever made.

Wow! Hey, those are the ones Joe has, yeah? They remind me of little shiney V-8 engines for some reason.
I just watched the How It's Made episode on those! They put it on my Roku! Yay!
Except, after watching that, now I want one (2 if they are mono), but they are too much in every way for someone like myself who has never even heard tube amps. Still pretty to look at though.
Someday soon (I think) I may hear a tube amp or two just to experience it and if I end up wanting to try tubes myself, I'll want to start in an easy does it way, baby steps. Those Mcintosh jobs are for the advanced students like you and Joe and a dozen other folk here.
First step is go listen to some.

Where are the getting the SED tubes from???? They haven't been in production for over a year. It's funny that those along with the TS KT120 and vintage Gec KT88's were least favorite tubes when I owned Dyn C1 Signatures. Now with the Raidho D1 those are my favorites.. Go figure :disbelief:

That is great Mike.
It is my opinion that Alexias do need tube power amps to really start to sing. And you just chose one of the best tube amplifier in the world.

I like the looks of those Mc275s so much that I wonder if they can make a fake one for me just to display at home or something? (I'll never qualify to own a real one and I'm fine with that). I mean, after watching the How It's Made episode, you know...while they are at it making the real ones?....hmm? :)

Did I mention how much I love these amps? An audiophile friend was over today and he turned to me and said "oooooh smooth". With the tube cocktail I've got in, I'm getting great, tight bass, tremendous separation of instruments, big soundstage and so much more. Very musical and neutral.

Add to this that they are gorgeous to look at and you can see why this amp has been made for over 50 years.

Mike...since the MK275 monos are making a nice combo with the Alexias, are they going to stay now? I know you ordered high efficiency speakers that should play nicely in your room but it looks like you are liking the Wilson - Mc combo.
