New Luxman d-10x sacd/cd-player

Too funny Jerry. We wish you a long, happy and prosperous life. The CL-1000 and MQ300 will just have to wait.

Thanks Jerry. I think it will be well worth the wait - something to look forward to indeed. And, if it makes you feel better, we've been having storms come through all night and later today affecting the power grid - so I've had to unplug my system. Forecast not looking great. Talk about torture :)

Now something to torture you my friend .... have you heard the Harbeth 40.3XD? You got to go for an audition ... First time I left the Harbeth 40 series audition VERY IMPRESSED!

It’s identical to Anniversary Edition. Only P3 and C7 get some upgrades with XD. P3 gets the most. 30, SHL5+ and 40 remain identical to anniversary edition.

I was kind of bummed. I had a long talk with the distributor who gave me all the poop. Was hoping for more internal changes. He did say the P3ESR anniversary to P3XD was “incredible”.

Jerry, sounds like it was a great demo - I'm curious, what amp was paired with the 40.3's? By the way - I think the d10x is going to sound glorious through your AG's. Now I'm super-envious!!!
 
Yup! And it was driven by an all Benchmark combo, not the super duper stuff you’ve got! And know what? It’s as glorious - that’s why after an hour, I left very impressed - cause imagine with your Lux combo, it’s got to be a killer. I’m not used or the Anniversary sound at all, so can’t comment if it’s any better or the same. But it’s one great sounding pair of speakers! The midrange, vocals is such a killer! As to my Lux D-1x, I suppose I’m going thru withdrawal symptoms now. Itch like hell, yet can scratch at all. Sigh! September first week better be good! Arrgghhhhj!

I picked up a K01 XD last week and ended up picking up a 10X last night , hoping to get the 10X setup today

I wouldn't say ugly but It doesn't have the refined look of the D-08u for sure with its slightly rounded quality and sensuality... Too bad since my guess is the next c900u preamp will also probably have this more squarish look that is less appealing (to me at least).

Again, not ugly per see but doesn't have that flawless perfect look Luxman usually have.

Also, isn't weird that the tray doesn't open more than that?

Hmmmmm. I’d love to compare the D10x sound to the MSB Discrete dac. I know apples and oranges but I still have a lot of cds that I would not mind playing directly.

Can’t wait for you guys to start getting your players up and running.
 
According to a guy on the Steve Hoffman site who has both new players (Esoteric 1x and Lux D10) they still retain the same "house sound" as earlier models. Luxman still has the laid back presentation with great detail.

Obviously, the Drive they use/manufacture isn't as custom as it should be for this application. In order to facilitate it hiding inside the body of the player it should also be an inch longer so it could fully extend out. Simply a big oversight and probably a limitation of the internal space as well

I don't think its an oversight, I don't think Luxman oversight anything... I don't think oversight is a word in japanese! :D

So... if everybody makes the same mistake or cuts similar corners this is now considered the norm or acceptable? Both of these players should fully expose the disk loading area... the Luxman does not becuase the drawer is mounted deeper within the player, the Esoteric does it because it has a super thick, protruding faceplate. Both should have their trays adapted.
 
Or maybe they do this to achieve greater overall structural integrity. I agree with Simon; this was not an oversight by either manufacturer.
