Looking at these myself.CNET says its the best they have seen.Nice price too.
I am still concerned about burn in due to so much news and sports I watch.
They all have the tickers.
Some say plasma has overcome this but I'm not positive.

NO such thing on Plasma's (at least the Panasonics) for some time. For a time, the plasma's used a screen wipe that would clear that stuff...now they shift like 10000 times a minute (I made up the number) so there is no such thing.

I have this one
Amazon.com: Panasonic VIERA TC-P65ST50 65-Inch 1080p 600Hz Full HD 3D Plasma TV: Electronics

And it is incredible...always has been. One of the features I like the best ? You can set custom color settings for any input so your cable can have one setting, HDMI another, Netflix another, etc...

Plus all the built in features like the Vierra Connect (gets yo uthe Netflix, amazon, youtube, etc.) and it can autodetect other Panasonic devices like a blue ray player. Turn the Blu-Ray on and it automatically switches to that input...

The picture is crisp, skin tones perfect and Black is really TRUE BLACK. One note...they set the settings WAY too hot at the factory. Learn to set your contracts color tint etc and you will think there are people in the room...

Hope this helps...maybe the pictures don't do it justice..hard to snap a moving target with a camera phone..LOL

Is the old rule about ambient light still true -- plasma for dark rooms, LED for light ones?

Nothing works that well if you have too much light (windows) IMO. I am also of the opinion that plasma TVs are the only way to go ATM unless you have a theater with great light control (absence thereof). I have several LEDs and, other than for watching CNBC or cartoons for my kids, I can't bear them for any serious viewing.

The ZT Series seems to be la creme de la creme.
How much is a 60" class size from that series?

_____________

The ST60 Series, the 65" class size is $2,600! ...I thought I saw the 60" one for $1,400. ...And even less. ...Or perhaps it was the 55" size; but no, it was the 60" ST60.

Agree about lighting...LCD's are less susceptible but not as clear from the side. If you note on my pictures, the window is BEHIND the TV...otherwise a bright sunny day would be an issue...but that applies to all...

And as far as the 60 vs the 65...Think like a woman...Bigger is better...LOL

Sheesh ..Mike don't ban me for that one...LOL

I agree. Some first reviews says this is a set that can finally hold its own, and in some areas even best the Kuro. I saw some estimates that the ZT will have a $500 premium over the VT in the same size. So right around $4,000 or just below for the 65 inch, I think.

Ended up pulling in the ZT60. As I'm sure everyone knows, it's the last plasma coming from Panasonic. So far I am loving how it looks.

Wise move Sean! Congrats! ...You probably went with the largest 65" size?

Maybe you can share some of the hi-def movies you'll be watching on it for the next few years or so?
We have some threads about that and we (you) can start some more too.

Actually went with the 60. It's doing me just fine, though.

As is very well documented online, the black levels are very excellent. Another color I find to be very nicely portrayed is red. Watching familiar material with deep reds shows a noticeable improvement.

So far the best bluray I have popped in has been Monsters University. Pixar flicks are second to none.

You have the top-of-the-line HDTV of all other plasma HDTVs.
...The black level on yours is simply the best. And the colors from animation flicks like from PIXAR must be totally awesome!

Share the love with us. ...Like you just did above.

To test out those blacks, Nolan's Batman trilogy looks fantastic. Batman's cape is so deep and inky that it looks like that part of the screen is almost turned off, which no backlighting effects. It's really impressive.

I have really been enjoying streaming HD Netflix material, too. Looks pretty good.

One bluray I am looking forward to watching again is The Social Network. That was shot with a great lens and I always liked how it looked on my previous LCD. I can only imagine how it looks on the Panny. I believe it's 2.40 so it will have to wait for a bit. Keeping the intitial hours on 1.78 content.

One of my favorite Series (Batman trilogy), plus the music is fantastic!

I luv David Fincher's compositions (photography, and cinema's luminosity).

With great power comes great responsibilities. ...With great blacks come great depth and dimensionality.
...Shadows are the details of the soul.

<<<>>> Very smart to keep the first 200 hours (on all plasma HDTVs) at full screen aspect ratio (1.78:1).

Great choice Sean! I couldn't stand it any longer either with the Panasonic Plasmas going away, and found a deal that was just too good to pass up on a 60" VT60. It is scheduled to arrive next Thursday. It will be replacing my almost five year old 50" Panasonic Professional Series Plasma (50PH9UK) which has been great, but the additional size and improved picture will be exciting to have!
