My PMC IB2i speakers need to be raising height .

I have the 14" PMC's stands and I found its little too short . I need to raising about 1 and half inches.

What would be the best idea ? Is there any cones or anything I can purchase without breaking the bank ?

Paul, hockey pucks, very handy to have around when you want to put spikes on things too. I have about 2 dozen of them & am always finding a use for them.

Kev. Thanks. I guess they will do the job... but same time I want them to look nice as well.

Something like this ? I wonder it will fit on the thread....and strong enough..

Ok then. I was going with the 2x4 budget. The best for me is Stillpoints Ultra 5's under a speaker. You will realise just how much you were missing & exactly what they sound like, detail, dynamics & more!

Wow. $699 each ? X 8 I guess let's go back to 2X 4 option :(

Actually how about this one Kev any experience ?

Hi Paul,

nice set-up, love those blue meters. I've owned a few different PMC models my self at one point - great speakers, it's been a while now.

Stillpoint Ultra 5's already recommended are costly but would be my #1 recommendation.

Are your stands filled with anything, if not should be.

An easy way to make up for that 1 1/2" would be to ad to the top of the stand and between speaker, if looking at stone standard thickness it's 3/4" and 1 1/4"solid. So you could add say 3/4" material between speaker and stand, will be more readily available and cheaper. Ensure you use blue tack dabs between the surfaces for proper contact. When it comes to that 3/4" material keep an open mind because there's numerous materials to try, wood of all sorts, man made material like corian, quartz, siltstone to just name a few, "think kitchen counter top material" Using these materials will have an effect on the sound so could get costly and time consuming but will be educational.

If I was looking at stone I would be looking at material like soapstone, limestone, corian type of material over say granite because they won't ring as granite does.

So lets assume you are placing 3/4" material between the speaker and stand now you have endless choices of different points for under the stands close to floor making sure you get something that allows you to adjust so you can get your speakers perfectly level - taking the time to do this is the icing on the cake once set-up

P.S. You would be looking for cut offs and scraps from stone fabricators, look for kitchen counter top installers, they are endless 1000's of them. Corian, find dealer locations, some corian dealer carry only 1/2" so you would be looking at them doing a edge build up. Measure the stand outside dimensions and have say 1 1/2" - 2" wide so it sits properly over the frame of the stand - they glue the material together. Preference would be 3/4" -less costly

Have fun :)

I have often wondered what maple butcher block would sound like under my speakers. IMO any platform (granite, wood, etc.) is a gamble. This company is a couple of hours away from me and they seem affordable. I think they would probably cut to any length I wanted. Maple butcher block offerings are 1 3/8" and 1 7/8". Spikes underneath would add more height. If anyone has tried butcher block I would appreciate feedback. I am not trying to hijack this thread. I think BB might be an elegant and affordable solution to the OPs objective. Then again, it might purely suck. :skeptical:

OK, looks like I am too new to post a link. So search for "Perfect Plank Co." located in Oroville, CA

I have experiment quite a bit with the IB2i and the PMC stands also height position, I found 16" to be ideal height. I also discovered different materials between the speaker and the stand had an effect on the sound more so than objects between the stand and floor. I ended with 50 duro Sorbothane between the stands and speakers. Filling the stands also improved things, a mixture of sand and lead was best to my ears. I also had a pair of Sound Anchors four post 16" stands built to compare, they were sand and lead filled, very heavy at around 90lbs each......this was a huge improvement over the PMC stands no comparison really between the two!! Mass and stability seem to bring the best out of the IB2i to me anyways.

If your keeping the PMC stands I would pick up some 2" metal bar stock and have them welded to the bottom of the stands, re-paint and your good to go, shouldn't cost much to do.....also fill the stands with sand and or lead shot. I would also run the bar stock side to side instead of front to back as you shown with the 2x4 in your pic, sort of an outrigger effect....also weld some pads on the bottom so you can tap for spikes.

Another option would be these

wow paul those stands look like they could be designed better and wider to be sturdier for those beautiful speakers.
are they heavy at all? id get some wood, sand, spikes and a nice piece of something soft for in between as Jeff mentioned and build a new pair. if we lived closer id come help you out. a nice sturdy rock solid base is what all speakers need.
as for now a couple pieces of 3/4 or 11/16 plywood would probably be better than those boards. 2 pieces on top of each other would be the desired height and sturdier than what you have, and you could paint em to match.
good luck and i love those pmc's!!!!

I tried to reply with quote to post #3 but was foiled by the imbedded internet link.

Regarding the spikes pictured there: I have seen them offered on several sites. As far as I know Adona Corporation (the rack company) is the only one that can supply them (black or gold) in sizes not offered on other sites. They made some in 8mm for me. My speakers weigh 50 pounds. No problems holding that much weight. From examining them up close I suspect they could handle much more weight than that without any problems. Good luck with whatever route you take.

Paul, if you plan on keeping the speakers I would look into getting different stands altogether. Check out these from Skylan...

or these from Sound Anchors...

Different heights are available and they seem more rugged and sturdy than what you have now.

Paul, can you lower your listening chair? ...Or tilt your speakers slightly upwards (3-5° or so)? ...By raising only the front of your speakers from right underneath, between them and the stands' top plate (small rubbers: 1/4-1/2" tall or so).

* Hockey pucks are great for under your chair, loveseat, couch; for raising them when necessary.
{The Official NHL ones are the recommended ones; anything less is inferior, not as effective.}

Wow...Lot of good advice here Thanks guys. I think I'm going to use the slab granite until I decide the keep the PMC then I might going to order the Sound Anchors stands. going to audition the O/96 tomorrow. :)
