I love this thing!

I'm going to have to clean it and retake the photos.

Awesome Joe! Thanks for the pics. Great looking piece of gear. Not sure why you need to clean it, but I really don't want to ask.

Doug,

You are too funny. Let's just say that the excitement got the best of me. ;)

Naim is stunning! It's very present in the room. The speakers are not there, just the music. It has a wonderful flow to it. I can't get over it. It has a big, full round sound with some sweetness and a round bottom, like I like my women. :)

That's one thing about Naim. The better the power supply, the better the sound

I love, love love, this combo.

Cool a Hicap DR also. great!!!!!!

Don't listen to a supercap DR - destroys the Hicap.

Amen, brother.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the Naim sound. I am still loving mine. I will be interested to hear your thoughts as it breaks in.

Hi Sean,

Can you tell me what changes you perceived and how long it took. Right now it's stupendous and oh so musical. I can't imagine better.

Joe...do you mind if I ask what's the list on the SuperNait 2 and the HiCap-DR? Curious what zip code we are talking about here? I can look it up but is the SuperNait 2 simply an integrated or does it have DAC or phono on board as well? Thx

Joe

What speakers are you using the Naim with? Based on your signature line I don't really see anything that would work with the output of that integrated.

Hi Cyril,

The new list on the Supernait 2 is $5150 and the HiCap-DR is $2500. The extra cable adds $300. When the V2 version came out, it's a straight integrated now. They removed the DAC and made improvements. I don't need/want another DAC so I'm happy with the change. Obviously the sound is paramount.

Hi Jack,

I'm using my TADs right now and it sounds amazing. They are 4 ohm speakers and the Naim puts out 130 wpc at that rating. Naim is known for having lower watt ratings but able to drive almost any load. The extra power supply adds to the oomph and lowers the noise floor and really brings up the performance.

Glad to hear it works with the TAD's and a little surprised. I would have thought the MR would have been a good match for them, but if you like what you are getting with the Naim and TAD combo that is all good. When you get the Harbeth's it will be interesting to see which direction amp wise you go.

The MR is an outstanding amp. Is it better than the Naim, in some respects yes but I wanted a solid state alternative with a different flavor.

Hey Joe, I am running mine sans HiCap so my break-in might differ from yours slightly. That being said I would say the 2 biggest changes I noticed were the bottom end tightening up and just the smoothness of the overall presentation being more apparent. I wouldn't say the amp was ever harsh sounding with my 160's but the presentation was more effortless, let's say, as it settled in. I would notice this more when I would leave the amp on for 7+ days straight. I have changed the PC from the stock one to a Silver Electra to a Shunyata Venom High Current, which I am currently running. The Shunyata adds to the naturalism of the amp, I feel; I like it very much. I also run it straight to the wall.

I will be intrigued to hear what you think of the sound and how it compares to the MC275 after that comes in and you have both broken in. Enjoy the ride, my friend. I am happy you are part of the Naim club!

Joe is correct - Naim watts are something you have to hear to believe. 80 watts at 8 ohms obviously doesn't sound like much but it's the high current that makes this amp what it is (along with the Discrete Regulator). The high current at low impedances allows the amp to drive speakers you wouldn't tend to believe it could (somewhat similar to strong tube amps). I haven't max'd out my SN2 on my 160's but I have turned it up quite loudly...never a hint of strain or clipping. I imagine the HiCap/SuperCap only exacerbates this effect.

Perfect Sean. Thank you. I love this thing so much that I catch myself looking at all the other Naim gear.

Just to add.

Adding a power supply on naim, powers the preamp section only. Adding the power supply adds nothing to the power amp.
