I was at Jay's home this weekend in Texas. I was invited to come out and listen to the Goldmund Telos 9800 and the new Telos 790 integrated. I have to be honest the 9800 were higher on my list to experience. First let me say that Jay has a beautiful place on a nice quiet piece of land . Its really quiet and the suite is very comfortable. I am not a client to buy from Jay but if I was I would have been very happy and impressed with the set up. He has two really well done rooms, I think they are the same size, but I might be wrong. The ceilings are high and they are well treated. I have done dozens of rooms and one call tell you when walk in that they are done well. It takes time , far more than I had available , to go down the looking for perfect rabbit hole. I will say that you will be able to listen to whatever gear you went there for without a lot of distraction or noise.
Telos 9800! WOW visually they are imposing. They look like some monolith made out of aircraft aluminum that have gold plates and gold accents. To be honest they look expensive and of course they are very costly pieces of gear. They have that luxury appeal and in that manner IMO they do not disappoint. He has in the room the Griffin Apex Mono's and the matching Commander Preamp. There was also a CH L10 Stereo Preamplifier and the latest CH 10 series Stereo DAC with power supply, clock and director. I am not that familiar with their stuff these days but I think that is correct. The loudspeakers were the Borresen M6 that sell for over 500k.
To be honest this would not be m y choice for speakers and I think that's an obvious comment, however one can certainly get a feel for the gear when we tried some different combinations.
How good are the Telos 9800? ahhh that is the question
