My Recent Digital vs Analog Experience

At a live Symphony whats the THD level hitting yur ears ..? Or did you skip that class too ..

:)

Nicoff, rest assured that the analog waves hitting your ears are indeed superior from your digital source, by all metrics except distortion, which of a certain type, can be pleasing to some, some of the time. But regardless of money spent, that's not fidelity, it's "whatever sounds good to me", as the patriarch of audiophiles JGH stated so eloquently.
Preference confused for fidelity by those unable to discern.

cheers,

AJ

Mike are you still hosting the first annual Digital vs Analog beatdown at your shop in November? You might need to bring on some extra help for this event.

Not analog vs digital, at all ,

its the AJ cant tell the difference and everything with an AC signal sounds the same to him Event ..

Low level information on the smalest scale in the sound waves might be very important for listening pleasure.

Nothing new to me. But it's nice to hear it from a DAC designer.

To be continued.

THD at an acoustic classical event? You shouldn't have skipped college. :)
Is that the form of distortion you believe makes you prefer vinyl? That would be incorrect. Try college, then join AES, read up on why THD is poorly correlated to audibility. There can't be any rational discussion without any knowledge on one side.
Seriously Mr Wayne, EE courses, then AES membership with papers access will help you greatly.
Or, just prefer vinyl for what it is, your lower fidelity preference. No shame there, preference is preference.
Nicoff prefers the higher fidelity choice, that too is a preference.

Rob makes some fine DACs, but he by no means has lock on "low level info" using his methods. If he did, a controlled listening test vs alternate methods would certainly flesh that out.

Are you two at it again?

Dam, I think you need a West Coast Branch... I am thinking the Gorgeous Central Coast of California...

Destination spot for so many and very much where those who made their fortunes in LA and SF like to retire :D....

Yes

While the rest of us are having fun!

Although, reading through this with those two is sorta fun. I have to admit it. Sorta Jerry Springer style.

At least they are attacking each other and not nice folks.

Those two will be in the parking lot battling it out. We will be inside, sipping wine, eating and listening to vinyl, digital, tubes, solid state, whatever.
