My new system

Mike, congratulations on your new system. You got a lot of great stuff. As you may know I have the salons also and I love them. Mine use krell 600e amps. Originally, mine we wired with straight wire, but the store that sold them here closed down so I switched to transparent. But I still use sw for the subs. Please let me know what wires you prefer.

we are all elicited and cat wait for your observations.

Thank you! I am using some Wireworld Eclipse speaker cables, but would like to try some AcousticZen speaker cables. I'm using Wireworld eclipse IC's - but would again like to try some AcousticZen. I'm using TaraLabs power cables and LOVE those!!!

The gear has been running over 50 hours (non-stop since Friday) and its breaking in nicely. I am having a heck of a time getting the speakers to image properly in my acoustically horrible room.

The amps are sounding really really good and sweet!

The speakers need about 300 hours (according to my dealer) to fully break in. The bass from the Studio 2's is really good. I was admittedly a little worried - but they have lots of bass. I find the midrange to be very good and its 25% larger midrange cone than the Salon 2 (but one less midrange cone) - might have something to do with that.

Mike...I'm late to the party as usual but a big congrats on your new system. It's a beauty my friend.

I don't know what turntables you are looking at, if any. I have a 25 year old vpi 19 mk 4 that I have been using recently after a long pause. I am very impressed with how good vinyl can be and the salons do it great justice. So let me encourage you to find a good turntable.

ps: I previously, four years ago, had thiel 7.2 speakers. Records sounded less musical, I think, because they didn't have the deep bass and the mid range was not thick. I can't believe how the revels handle everything.

The Revels are true gems in the HiFi world. They do require a lot of power to open them up however. That being said, the Salon2/Studio2 tweeter is the most non-fatiguing tweeter I've ever heard (although I'm quite anxious to hear the Raidho's).

I will look into a TT once the phonostage for the CP800 is released and had been installed. I'm hoping the CP800 will truly do it all. The activation of the CP800's Ethernet will be important too - because it will mean no computer hogging up the top shelf of my rack and therefore mean room for a nice TT!

The CAM600's are the most pleasant surprise of the new system. Toe tapping whiplash speed is, well, damn addictive!

Beautiful setup Mike.

How do you think a pair of SF Futuras would sound with the Classe gear? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Quick update: I shut the amps down this morning. Let them cool off for an hour or so. I was listening last night for about 2 hours and it sounded really good. I've been playing with speaker placement the last couple of days and I think I have them dialed in really good - given the rooms acoustic challenges. Last night, I could tell that the speakers were opening up and the amps were sounding sweet. This morning (after playing all night), everything was very bright. The amps/preamp are going through the typical yo-yo phase right now. I know they need a good 600 hours to break in....300 at least. The journey continues. At least I can play them 24/7 without worrying about tube burn!

Mike, congrats on the new system. That CP800 is really a Swiss Army knife. Are you saying that using Ethernet cable will allow longer runs so you can put the server somewhere far away?

Yes Jeff, that's exactly right. Not only that, but it will eliminate the computer in between the files and the DAC. You will control it with an iPad app. Rip the CD using DBPowerAmp on a PC to NAS to FLAC. Plug the NAS into the Router. Run another CAT5/6 from router to CP800 (after the upgrade). Install and turn on the Media Server app (free) from Synology on your Synology NAS. Done. Sit back and access your entire music collection from an iPad.

Hi Mike i have not heard the Raidho's bigger models BUT the D-1 bookshelf on it's stand with Jeff Rowland gear realy impressed me at the Montreal SSI show this year ( that is no easy thing to do :) ) with the gear that you own you also should be very hard to impress :) with a 28k bookshelf it should be darn good and it was.

The Raidho speakers are on my "must audition" list. My favorites are definitely narrowing. Thankfully - I own the second best speaker I've ever heard (Aida) and one of the best I've ever heard for the money (Revel).

I have the Aida's so dialed in now - they simply don't sound like speakers. They are truly sounding like the musicians have gathered in my room for a private concert.

That being said - I can't wait to hear the Raidhos along with a few others. The real question I have about the Raidho's is bass. I will be interested to see if they produce a realistic bass both in strength and definition.

MBL 101 Extremes. They played tricks on my mind. They take three dimensional to the extreme. I just kept saying to myself "I can't believe I'm hearing this." I've never heard anything as good and real. It was as real as real.
