My new ride - 2018 VW Golf Type R ....

OMG, those are insane, but I absolutely love my R.

Thank you. I just can’t get over how capable and fun my R is to drive. I don’t see myself being able to spend any money money on a car and this one just keeps whispering in my ear, “let’s go out and play”. I’m stunned.

ya, pair of amps or cables or a Golf R? My new car is also putting things in perspective.

highly recommend a ceramic coating on the R...had my M2 done yesterday and it gleams like candy.

That’s awesome Keith. I so wanted the M2 but having 4 wheel drive here in NY really helped with my decision, not to mention the ultimate price differential.

I need to do the treatment to my car. Normal wash, wax and detailing is out for me. It’s just too much work. I’ve been reading about the ceramic coating and am trying to find a reputable guy to do it.

I agree, buying my car really put my audio purchases into perspective. I’m truly happy all around.

Nice one, Joe! +1 on ceramic coating. You’ll be glad you get it.

Joe, did you ever test drive the new Miata when considering the VW R? I know the R is a better performer but the Miata is supposed to be a blast to drive. While I love my BMW i8 I was thinking about getting a modestly-priced manual transmission ragtop to play around with and the Miata always gets top rankings in this category.

I test drove both the Miata and the gti before I bought my gti. I also have a buddy with a Miata, which gets the nod from a fun driving perspective, but loses badly on the utility perspective - so it’s ultimately about your needs and wants. Agree though - the Miata is a super fun and not over the top expensive car.

I’m a little embarrassed to say but I tried just getting into the Miata and I gave up. I don’t think it would have even been possible to wiggle in. The new Miata looks a little bigger than its predecessor but I couldn’t do it.

I absolutely wanted to get a Mazda and looked at them all. The Miata would have been a blast but I was worried about making it work.

Ugh!

Since the R has a hatch and seats that fold down, it's much easier to haul large amps and speakers around, lol.

I have a dealer nearby that sells both VW‘s and Mazdas. Being bored on this holiday, I may go check out both of them. I will report back.

That’s exactly why I picked my R, speed, handling, four wheel drive and utility. Win win all around.

The R is eager to run and handling is awesome. Price to performance is off the hook.

I wish they imported the R Wagon, too. I would have been all over that with my VW buyback money. Instead, I ended up with a 4Motion wagon, that will soon have 300+ HP.

OMG, an R wagon or sport wagon would have been my pick too but I have no complaints. There’s a lot of great vehicles we don’t get here. :(

My mobile detailer does a base c quartz treatment for $350 that includes wash, clay bar, decontamination/scratch removal/polish (stripping down the car), and then 2 coats of c quartz ceramic w/ heated drying done per body panel. It took 3.5 hours and that was on a week old car with no issues. He said if my car is garaged, it would last 4 years.

The super detail guys using cquartz professional go upwards of 1k which seems a bit silly but some do 4 coats, etc. I'm very happy with the base treatment and thus far seems dust just rolls off it.
