Steely Dans, Hugh Masekela - Hope, James Certer- Gardenias, Spyro Gyras, Greg Pan.- La Foglia, Many from Praga Digitalis label, Pentatone Samplers, all 13 albums in DSD128!

Not to be a pain in any way, but many of those were actually recorded in PCM -- what's the value of transferring such a recording to DSD as opposed to the high def PCM? I'm genuinely asking.

Julien, I tend to agree with you,but some of these titles were supposed to have been made from the master tapes. I'm with you, Id rather have the high quality pcm than subject it to a conversion to dsd.

I totally understand the value when the master tapes are analog -- then a DSD may extract more info out of it. But when it's been recorded in PCM, unless I don't understand how it works, the high frequencies that are missing in PCM won't be recreated by switching to DSD. And for some of the recordings mentioned here, they have been recorded straight to DSD, so it's very appealing to listen to those masters directly.

Some websites specifically specialize in native DSD apparently.

Which ones? Not Praga, Pentatone or La Foglia…In any case, DSD is the ONLY hi rez format of many many albums available, even if originally recorded in PCM.

The Praga or Pentatone I have not found in DSD downloads. I have found the Pentatone in PCM downloads, the Praga I've only seen in 16/44.1.
My point is just that supporting DSD format should bring you a plus of some sort, and I don't see how it can if the original recording is in PCM.
That said, I've been very happy with the hidef PCM I've had so far. I'm just curious to know if there's more out there.

Well, get yourself a vintage PS3 and start ripping. Opens up a whole new world and is cheaper too, as new SACDs often run cheaper than DLs and used ones even more so. I got my Pragas locally here for $10 a pop. Many won awards in French/British music mags.

Again, I repeat that many of these PCM recordings ONLY exists as hirez in DSD format via SACD. You may want it to be one way…but current reality is the other way.

well thanks, but no thanks. Ripping the CDs is enough of a pain as it is. Plus, I swore myself I'd never buy a Sony machine again.

Suit yourself…but at least you know there is a way.

I say no thanks to the unsure provenace/overpriced offerings of some of those online DL sites.

I'm going to do a demo with the Aurender S10, Lumin, Manley 300b preamp in my system this Sunday. If the Lumin doesn't stack, don't start throwing stones. I currently have the Macbookpro with SSD using Audirvana+ into the Meitner MA-1, everything isolated with HRS & Stillpoints, not to mention my SGR Audio rack that is isolated with sorbothane, one of the better materials in my liking, the dac has the EMM Labs propriety jitter cancelling techno in it, bring it on........:woot::woot::woot::fingers::ko::newmail:

Have to revive this thread after reading the above. ;) So what happened?

Yes, what happened ? In the past I've been unimpressed with both the Aurender and the Meitner, esp its USB input.

I never bought a Lumin or Aurender. With my macbook pro that had a ssd in it, we all considered the notebook & Meitner the winner
