My New Lumin

Well, the Lumun has landed !! I got it running and it's sounding great so far :woot:

More to come.

Congrats, Mark! You are the model of liking what you have. To make a change, the Lumin has to be pretty special!:audiophile:

I don't know either. Mike said this before in another thread, but I'll steal it. :)

My guess is that in the Streaming solution, the manufacturer gets total control of the sound that comes out. He doesn't have to worry about what program is used, or what computer is used, what cable is used, whether it's USB or BNC or etc etc etc. There are so many variables that ALL make a difference some good some bad. He gets to control all of those and anytime you can control the variables, you end up with a better end product for 98% of the people out there. The other 2% take the time, have the knowledge to use the variables to tune their system.

Well said - that makes a lot of sense.

For those who have the Lumin Player and do not know, there is an upgraded PSU that will, by 3 accounts that i know of, of the 70 or so that Kenneth Lau has made, take what is an amazing product to even greater sonic heights.Mine should be here in a week or two.All three of the individuals that i talked with could not believe how much better the upgraded PSU ( Kenneth's 3rd version ) sounds. One of the early reviewers of the Lumin, who has the 2nd upgrade, says it is a significant improvement.Lumin's new 'S-1' model has an upgraded PSU vs the original model.

Thanks! I ordered mine yesterday from Ken. :). I can't wait.

Unless you have the 'S-1' you have the original PSU. Kenneth Lau..the gentleman who is making the upgraded PSU that Mike and i are getting does not work for Lumin...he is, i believe, one of a number of people who are / can make an upgraded PSU for the Lumin. i was given his name by one of the the reviewers. he is a great guy, who, by the looks of the pics he sent me, is very talented.i have heard nothing but good reports from the 3 individuals that i talked with . The new, top of the line, Lumin...the 'S-1' ...and i am not sure it is being offered yet, will have an upgraded PSU.It was recently shown at the CES.

Guys - let me get the third party PSU and report back to you. No need to worry. The PSU that comes with the Lumin is superb. If the Ken Lau PSU for the Lumin is a upgrade sonically, I will let you know. It is my understanding that the Ken Lau PSU takes the Lumin into a whole new level - competing handily with the best of the best digital (read: DCS Vivaldi). We shall see.

It is not an inexpensive upgrade by any means (about $950).

I remain cautiously optimistic.

There are a lot of products I buy and try and don't report on. But if I feel its worth it, don't worry, you all will know! :)

Mike:

Is it a mod to the existing supply box or a replacement?

Replacement.
