MSB Select II arrival

the 1 meter Tripoint Thor SE Master Reference grounding cable arrived today; I installed it 2 hours ago on the dart pre, connected to the Tripoint Troy Sig. I have the other Thor SE MR on the Select II.

from the first note this was something different, but over the first 30 minutes it was changing constantly in degrees.....then seemed to come up on plane.....with gradual deepening of effect, now seems to be in a pretty solid place.

this thing pegs the reality meter big time, deepens and supercharges the bass, opens up textures, more holographic and dimensional, adds that sexy nuance to all the little 'tells' and adds an unreal propulsion and note development to the music. some sort of line has been crossed into another level, but i'm trying to just enjoy and not work too hard with words.

the music calls to me. :-)

I have to agree with Audiocrack; 1 + 1 Thor SE Master Reference grounding cables = much > than only 2.

why would a silly 1 meter long grounding cable have such an effect? maybe things were close to a perceptual breakthrough and this tipped it over?

I must be delusional.

coming home tonight and sitting down I notice that.........with 48 hours of break-in and settling of the 2nd Thor SE Master Ref grounding cable.........we have stepped up another notch into the 'suspension of disbelief'.

the other night I was hearing/noticing pieces and parts of the music come alive, now it's a sense of the 'whole musical flow' with no part prominent. the music just jumps out........an overall experiential thing. have I changed? are my ears now more attuned to what is happening? like analog? like music? maybe more like tape than vinyl? it has that big meaty 'tape' authority.

this morning I recall vividly my perceptions of the track I was playing. it's now it's just more right here.

the Select II is just pulling so much musical reality from these files.

Hi Mike,

It sounds like you've reached the plane where the MSB Select II DAC has transcended the source medium and is providing you full immersion and an emotional connection to the music in the manner of a live performance. This is to what we all aspire to achieve with our systems, be it vinyl, reel to reel or digital. Your diligence in fine tuning the Select II DAC has beared fruit, sonically speaking. Congratulations!

Ken

Mike, with the sound that you are now experiencing, are you going thru your pre or going direct?

Hi Le Roy,

I think Mike decided on keeping the Dart preamp in the chain. From Mike's Post #38, Paragraph 5:

"then he had a suggestion which turned out to be the right answer. use the dart pre, but leave the Tripoint Thor SE Master Reference Grounding cable on the Select II instead of switching it to the dart pre. this took things to another level altogether. more dimensional, coherent, and greater ease. quite a profound step forward."

Best,
Ken

I am very appreciative of this thread as I have been an MSB convert for a few years now. I miss the days when I had an MSB DAC in my system with fond nostalgia. I take my hat off to you Mike on your dedication to extract the sound from this component & also keep a very open mind on what could be, instead of not bothering to try. Please keep us updated.
