MQA now on Tidal

What I found, in my travels, is that the majority of newer stuff is recorded at 24/96. I never saw a single 24/192 and no DSD.
!

True. Channel Classics and LSO Live are both recorded at DSD128, although their biggest sellers are the hi-res PCM transcodes (at both 24/96 and 24/192 in many cases). Barry Diament records and releases in 24/192. Lots of new pop/rock and jazz is 24/48 or 24/44.1 mastering, even if recorded at 24/96. ECM, DGG and Decca are released in true 24/96 (or sometimes 24/88.2), no idea if they were recorded in higher res.

I'd say that's highly unlikely, since the developer of HQPlayer has had only negative things to say from his technical analysis of MQA on Computer Audiophile.

I hear ya I read his comments on CA, but when this voodoo magic gets more and more users and supporters via labels and equipment manufactuers, I think he will think about it and no doubt if he does the quality will surpass whats out there.

if we now do a search, in the Lumin app of that album. (In this case Dark Sky Island) we have 4 albums (two are 44.1 / 16 and two are 48/24)

Please update the Lumin app to version 6.0.7 - the MQA logo is now shown on the cover art of the MQA albums. This feature of identifying MQA albums was exclusive to Tidal desktop app. I believe we're one of the very first Tidal partner companies to get this feature integrated and released.

Peter...I looked up the 'Anya' albums you noted through the Lumin app and found 3 of the Dark Sky albums and yes, 1 was 24/48 but I did not see any indication on the album cover of 'MQA' .. where is it located?

The MQA icon should be shown in the top left hand corner on the cover art.

Please make sure you've updated to Lumin app 6.0.7 or later, and "MQA icon on Artwork" under Tidal settings is On.

Masters album access (and a lot of other Tidal albums) is region dependent. Please go to the top-level Masters category and check out other album cover art.

Peter... is there a trick to getting the volume control to work, on the Lumin, as it will not go up or down today?

Peter...I just realized that when I raise or lower the volume bar on the Roon page the volume level goes up or down accordingly on the Lumin app, but I cannot raise or lower the volume on the Lumin app when I try to play music on that app. It looks like Roon has control of it.can it be operated independent of each other?

We're fixing this issue with the Lumin app. For those who have to use the in-app volume feature, please use Esoteric Sound Stream app (without the Tidal MQA icon display) before the fixed Lumin app becomes available.

Peter...thanks. Will probably wait until you get a fix. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't done anything to cause the issue. Dave

Re: MQA on Tidal

But remember the bsg qol? Listeners and reviewers raved about that for awhile, i think it might even have won Product of the Year from some audio journal.

That was hardware that wasn't tied into some cheesy monopolistic manipulation of music files. I have one and I love it.

Which Tidal MQA albums do you guys think are sounding very good? Thanks for all input in advance.

SACD, MP3 320kbps, AAC, AIFF 24/96, FLAC 24/192, DSD, ALAC, MQA etc. - they will try something new every year to push sales.

that's the industry.
