Momentum integrated amplifier

+1 Big time!

Thank you Shane for the validation. If the tone controls had a zero point, I would still have the preamp today.

I could certainly hear the difference between -1 and +1 on both the bass and treble listening to the system and I am sure you could too. Joe certainly could.

What I did find hard to hear was -/+ 5 & 6 on the bass and treble. Nobody will ever use that end of the tone controls, so why have it. I can easily live with -5 or +5. Dan, your choice.:P

Not having a zero mark in the preamp is just stupid imo.

Yes, there is a "0" - you can see it under the Bass control (post #31 - 2nd pic from the bottom).

* Is there a Balance control?

Zero is off!! Zero switches the bass and treble controls off.

That is the problem.:exciting:

Can't recall re balance, most decent pre amps have them on the remote so you can adjust at the listening position - did not have the remote when I listened.

Dah, since the difference between -1 and +1 is 2db you probably could hear it. It is unlikely that you could tell the difference between +1 and off or -1 and off because the normal human ear can't detect it and that is what he was showing.

Why is Zero (off) a problem?

* I'll take a Balance control over a Bass & Tone controls anytime of this lifetime!

It switches both the bass and treble off, regardless if you want bass on zero and treble on -2 for example.

Dan put the tone controls on the pre amp, if he had not we would not be talking about it.
There is no tape monitor either which is perfect for any external eq, especially digital which needs full signal for best performance. I guess Mike can let us know if it does have balance.

For any pre amp, let alone a 35k one it is just a dum ass poorly thought out engineering decision on the tone controls - imo.

I love my Momentum Stereo , but the preamp is not on my list.

The Dag integrated amp has the same face as the preamp (very very slight difference - in the size of the tone controls - Bass & Treble).

I see no Volume and no Balance controls outside of the outer display wheel. ...There perhaps one turns around. ..If not I didn't see the picture of the remote control, or I simply passed by it.

The balance is probably on the remote. I didn't look. The integrated is a gorgeous looking and sounding piece - but folks looking for a zero/nil point on the tone controls will be disappointed.

This terrible oversight by Dan has me considering whether I should still consider purchasing something because it has something I may never use.

In fact, I am now in the process of putting my LR4 up for sale because it has a lighter. I never use that.
I am packing up my camera because it will shoot up to 5fps and I never shoot more than one.
My turntable will go next because it has a 78rpm button and I know I won't use that.
Darn if Dan didn't give me the option for changing the sensitivity of the meters on my Momentum's. I have never switched that. I will really miss them.
My wife is angry because I threw out all my casual shirt that have a top button than I never use.
I guess the rest of my retirement will be spent getting rid of anything that has a option I won't use.
Darn, this hobby sucks.

That's what I always thought too. But I can tell the dif between -1 & -2 on Dans preamp. So I only assume I could also hear between 0 & -1.

Best post of the day Jim! :D

I guess you haven't looked at the graphs in the reviews of the Momentum pre-amp. The difference between the different positions are not linear. I will try and attach a copy tomorrow when I am not using an iPad.

I didn't know that

Then that makes sense. Thanks

jock
They are not huge differences but you can see they increase a bit with each change.

It's is a beautiful integrated. A bit pricey and, yes, don't care for the tone controls. But, I'm sure it is a wonderful sounding amp and built to the highest quality levels.
