Meter Mania!!!!!

But many people are subconsciously happy spending big money on looks, although perhaps they don't question how much the boxes actually contribute to the total cost.

hmmmm......it seems awfully judgmental to be so bothered that others spend money in a way that doesn't align with what you find within acceptable parameters.

Perhaps they do take all that into account and you have no clue what they use as deciding criteria other than to simply want to take a superior and divisive looking-down on how others chose to purchases?

You like NAD with horns. That's cool. I could say "many people know NAD is mid-fi at best and partnering them with horns shows you don't have a very good ear". But instead I respect you like what you like, and it doesn't bother me what you spend you money on or your buying criteria.

My point is, why does it bother people like yourself so much how others decide what is important buying criteria or how much the spend?

It's meant as an honest question as I see posts like yours often and always wonder why people feel the need to behave that way.

It doesn't bother me one jot. This is a leg-pulling thread and you shouldn't take what I or others say so seriously. Lighten up.
I am more than happy for anyone to spend however much they like on their kit and I'm more than happy buying from a brand that was mid-fi two or three decades ago and still offers mid-fi to those on a tight budget, but their customers get their money's worth as it's well engineered and comes in modest enclosures. Their Master Series is hot on the heels of the top brands, but you've possibly not spent time listening to this stuff. Good enought to be voted Stereophile's Amplifier of the Year, Componant of the Year and Editors Choice - for what that's worth. Horns are often considered best fed by SETs but I have found a worthy alternative without the hassle, but with an equally exciting delivery of music - and that's really all I'm intertested in, specially if it means I have a bigger speaker budget. :)

Being voted great by a pay-for-play, has-been, no-one-has-read-in-20-years mag is hardly glowing praise. Next you'll be quoting Steve Huff saying it's the best ever. LOL. That's sort of like snarky has-been (or never-were) old legacy reviewers hanging around on forums pretending they are still (or were ever) relevant.

It's ok you like it, you don't need to use others to justify your purchase decisions or be defensive / sensitive about it. So long as you like it that is all that matters. No one is looking down on you or judging your taste.

Thanks for clarifying your post that you aren't being judgmental of others like it was originally written.
