I saw a review for the Cara, https://parttimeaudiophile.com/2017/10/29/review-merrill-audio-cara-preamplifier/ , it has some interesting features.
Fully balanced with only XLR inputs and outputs, you can use an adaptor for single ended. The preamp has 2 sets of outputs but each output gain can be independently set which would be cool for bi-amping. Reasonably priced with a separate power supply, the same supply used for the $12k Christine according to the review. No controls on the faceplate, not so good if you are one to misplace your remotes, LOL. That's actually not me, my remotes are always in the same place. Each input level can also be adjusted.
I have not heard the Wyred4Sound STP-SE, I'm imagining these two would make for a good shoot out. He says not having heard either
