McIntosh MC601's

Not a whole heck of a lot. I have owned Emotiva products for my Home Theater. They're fine, but most certainly not in the same league as big blue McIntosh. Sonically the Emotiva will sound harsh compared to the buttery smooth McIntosh.

Mike

I actually notice that with the XPR 5. It sounds harsh and gritty. But some swear that the XPR 1's are in a whole different league with its balanced amp and what not, one guy thinks there's not much of a difference between mac and certain Emotiva models...I personally think the XPR's are fine for HT applications but not for stereo 2 channel listening.

What do you think about the damping factor which essentially is the amp control over the drivers if I'm not mistaken....Mac's have low DF compared to some amps out there. Does it matter?

I know all about damping factor. That's a very important consideration for FAST speakers like Raidho. But damping factor in general depends on the speakers. For B&W, I wouldn't worry at all. Synergy is most important more than a particular spec. For B&W, Classe will satisfy your head, McIntosh will satisfy your heart - and your eyes.

I personally think Classe' can satisfy both.

Well I've made up my mind. It's gonna be the 452. Now I just have to negotiate the best deal :-))

Thanks. Hey can I place the amp on a sturdy entertainment center since it'll probably won't fit inside or should I place it on the floor on top of a tile or something....???

Just my 2 words : i replaced my 452 by the 601...and for my sasha, it was the right choice. More grip and a better medium. I think Mc is magic with mono amps ;)

Congrats Frank!

Absolutely agree, if you need/want the power, monos will be better. I am thinking of the MC452 for myself. I have an itch to scratch.

I hate this thread....it's a constant nagging reminder of me selling my 2301's. But love you all. [emoji173]️

I had McIntosh MC601's in the living room system and also in the studio system at one point in time. The MC601's sounded fabulous driving the Sonus faber Amati Anniversario speakers. I could have stopped there but I developed a serious lust to own a pair of MC2301's, not because I had any performance issues with the 601's but I wanted to experience McIntosh's big tube power amps on the Anniversario's. I traded the MC601's in the studio system for a pair of MC2301's and never looked back. I don't miss the MC601's in the studio because I still have a pair of them in the living room system. It is a win win scenario in my book. The MC2301 amplifiers melt me into a puddle every time I listen to them. Yes, they are that good.

Beautiful Dan. I unfortunately blew past the MC2301's when I was amp swapping. How I wish I had slowed down a little. I fell in love with my Strads with MC2301's. I am older and wiser, I will not make the same mistake.
