David,

D150 + MCT450 is the only replacement planned at this point.

Thank you,

I'd like to see the back of the MCT450 to look at the outputs.

Why doesn't McIntosh have their own domain name email? MSN?

I haven't seen a MSN email address since the artist formerly known as Prince, had a number one hit.

Hahaha that was good one !

Technically, the MCD1100 is hard wired in such a way that prevents it from ever supporting the DoP protocol over USB. It's a pity because it has a superior DAC.

It's official. No more McIntosh MCD1100 stock. The used market is your only option if you want this fine player/DAC/pre-amp. Certain to become a classic collectible IMO just like its predecessor.

The next best replacement is the MCT450+D150. Sure it does DSD (DoP) under that plain sheetmetal chassis.

The predecessor to the MCD1100 was the MCD1000+MDA1000. We all remember the beautiful build quality of that combination. A combination that still gives many transports and DACs a run for their money.

Is the McIntosh build quality going backwards in favour of maintaining a market price point?

You have to wonder what direction the DAC happy McIntosh are going, particularly with their component source lines...

What the MX160 will be, is another one to watch out for.

It took a lot of effort, but I found 1 retailer that had one in stock and bought it. I had to call more than 30 audio retailers across the USA. I get my MCD1100 this coming Tuesday!

Congratulations! Your perseverance paid off big time. You probably got the last one in the country. I've auditioned the MCD-1100 several times. One extraordinary thing I noticed is that the MCD-1100 has absolutely the best internal variable linestage I've ever heard in a digital player, and that includes my Esoteric K-01.

Best of luck,
Ken
