A statement system through and through.

Ken

Indeed. I keep telling myself, “one day, one day”. Sigh...

When people experience the xTreme system, it’s like an out of body experience. Completely mind blowing. Thankfully the 101e mk2’s get you a good chunk of this. It’s funny how everyone thinks the MBL’s need some special room, and crazy setup, etc. Here’s the setup:

* they need AT LEAST 31 inches from the middle of the speaker, the very center point on top, to any surrounding walls. You can even have a wall on one side and none on the other. They will work fine.
* you don’t want the exact same different from the middle of the speaker to the side wall as you do the front wall. Vary it. So let’s say 36 inches from middle of speaker to side wall and 48 inches to front wall.
* you aim the MBL logos on the speaker at the middle of the listening position (middle of the back seat of the chair).
* you sit in a slightly further back position than an equilateral triangle. So let’s say middle of speaker to middle of speaker is 90 inches, you would sit 100-105 inches back (right ear to right tweeter, left ear to left tweeter).
* I prefer all copper cables. Others may try copper, copper/silver or pure silver for flavoring. To me, all copper gives a more balanced sound with the Omni tweeter/midrange.
* use MBL electronics: amps, preamp and source. Sorry to say, I tried a bunch and none came even close to the MBL gear on the MBL’s. Makes picking matching electronics easy.

...this has been my findings so far. Like Avantgarde’s, I’m still perfecting the setup and my findings.

Everyone should try and hear the MBL X-treme at an audio show if MBL brings out these amazing speakers. Especially if UHA is partnered as the analog front end. Magical indeed.

Great post, Mike!

It's been several years but nothing has come close to my audio epiphany with the X-tremes. The room seemed energized by the music.

We will have the full 101 xtreme system at Audio Video Show in Poland in November.

I wonder how it will sound - we have one of the best sounding big rooms of any hi-fi show venue.

I would love to listen to that system. Road trip, Mike? :D
