Magico SPOD - New!

Mike, will you get some for the S3 mk2s?

Ordered. I'm so excited to find out what madfloyd said. The bass on my S3s are already very articulate.

$2995 for 8.

Something else to think about. Since the Cyclops v2 on each amp cannot be upgraded to a v3 level, I am thinking of taking my Denali 2000T off my TV, and buying another Denali 2000T in order to bring even better noise reduction to my amps. Then I can use one Cyclops to replace the Denali on the TV. That might be better, since on another forum Caelin said the 2000T was mainly for amps. Anyway, if I do I should get the SPODs also. Just thinking out loud here, and convincing myself. :)

SPODS cost <8% of S5 mk2, but you probably get >10-15% performance gain or even 20%.

Just thinking out loud for you. :D

Thanks. I guess by the time the S5s are 90%+ broken in some SPOD reports should be available, and if they are close to your guesstimate then it is a no brainer.

I think price-wise these are expensive, but not over the top. If you put stillpoints under the speakers (which I would not recommend), e.g. the Ultra SS would be $2000,-.

And if the MPODs are any evidence, these should even work.

The positive thing is also, that this time around Alon takes also existing owners into consideration, not just new customers. [emoji145]

What I wonder is if they are higher than the stock S5 MKII spikes. The stock MKII spikes raise the tweeter a bit higher than the stock S5 spikes. One thing I have noticed with both the S5 and S5 MKII speakers is they are very directional. That is, if you sit a little higher/lower or left/right then the sound will change. It is always good, but different.

I have observed the same. I have my S3s on TrackAudio spikes, which put them a bit lower and like it better that way.

In all honesty - I think they are both very expensive. We have a saying in Polish for a situation like this: cry and pay :D

Touché [emoji3], was more in reference to the MPODs, which are a bit dearer. But after all, Magico is a hi-end manufacturer.

If the effect is however anything like the MPODs I don't even need to cry when paying.

Ok, d'accord. Then I understand where the Polish crying comes from [emoji23].

But seriously, based on what I have understood - before actually hearing the difference myself - it should be worth it. Should be interesting to hear your view on the M3s with/ without MPODs. But I guess that would be too much of a hassle.

No wonder when I paid yesterday I thought I felt something on my cheeks.

Looking forward to hearing your impressions.

Hope the tears have dried by then [emoji3].

Tears have dried and SPOD Plus (for S1/S3 mk1) is in the house.
Improvement is immediate and obvious. More bass articulation, more clarity and focus (hence, more details and rich sounding). Not sure if any break-in is needed. Still need more listening time for detail assessment.

Wow, that was fast. Very exciting!

Being a fellow S3 owner, I presume you had good bass articulation and clarity before, so what has changed?

Do I understand you correctly that the sound is more rich now? What about distortion, any impact at high volumes?

In parts it sounds a bit like the changes wrought by Stillpoints SS Ultras. What I however heard with the Stillpoints, was an increase in distortion as a price to pay for the increased fullness.

Apologies about the probing questions, but I am genuinely interested as I am contemplating a similar move.

No problem, Kuoppis. [emoji4]
Yes, I did already have very nice bass articulation and clarity before. Nothing really has changed and I don't feel it's different sounding. It's just more of the same goodies.
I think more rich sounding is due to improved clarity, so it's just easier to hear more details.
As for distortion, I think it might probably be also related to upstream components, cables, power situation and file quality (I only have digital, at least for now). If SPOD induces more distortion, I don't hear it. Haven't really gone to very high volumes yet as it's 10:30pm on the west coast. Will report back once I have a chance.
