Magico S3

I made that switch and it is completely another league.

No rocket science there though, two 8" woofers + a 6" midrange just move considerably more air than one 7" midwoofer. And of course the S3 is a full range LS, while the S1 is not. That is very clearly audible.

Daft Punk's Random Access Memory has never sounded better after I got my S3s. Fast, punchy and precise bass with good body and weight.

HUGE CONGRATS!! Magico and Class A seems to be a popular trend lately :audiophile::audiophile::audiophile::audiophile:

Now, if only i knew somewhere to get sexy Siltech :hmmm::hmmm::P

+1

From all the amps I've tried with my S5s, I got the best synergy with my MSB M202 monos, which are 200W class A amps and the Vitus SM-011 monos in class A mode. The Vitus SM-102 monoblocks I've heard earlier today at Rhapsody make also a killer combination.

Adam,

You went to Rhapsody today? I would have loved to have seen you there. Hopefully next time we'll get some notice if you go again.

Yes, I'm on Holiday in NY with my family till Tuesday.

I have already visited Myles and Rob. I think they both 'infected' me with the R2R bug :)

Joe, maybe we will have a chance to meet when you finally come to Munich, which as you know is the Holy Grail of audio shows :)

For whatever reason, I thought you live in CT not NJ.

I would love love to hear your famous system too !

I'm in NY, on Long Island.

My system/room is nothing compared to what others here have. But, thank you for the kind words.

Adam, thanks for pushing for MUC [emoji2]. Would be great to have a shark crowd there next year.

As I am fluent in German as well, I would be happy to play tour guide.

Agreeable. Today have a listen to s3 and s1 mk2. S3 sounds considerably wider and more punch

S3's are killer. I miss mine. I loved a previous comment about Daft Punk never sounding so good. So true, right Paul?

I guess i jumped the gun and sold them off too early making room for new models and awaiting the possibility of a Mark II.

Do keep in mind, expect a price increase with the potential MK11's. This makes the current S3's still the darling and a great value in Magico's fantastic lineup.

Plus, there will be less of a difference between the S3 mk1 and mk2 than there is between the S5 mk1 and mk2, since the S3 mk1 already had the new midrange sub enclosure.

Yes, very good point, Elberoth. Knowing Magico, S3 mk2 might have something that S5 mk2 and S1 mk2 do not have?

It all depends when the new S3 gonna be introduced.

Here is the midrange enclosure that all new gen Magicos have (including S3 mk1):

I'm wondering if the S3 enclosure is simply the midrange??
The first pic below is from Magico's website and shows the view of the midrange enclosure from the back of the cabinet which to me indicates it covers the midrange & tweeter. The second pic is of an S7 midrange enclosure which clearly shows the cutouts for the midrange & tweeter. I think the confusion has arisen due to the fact it is commonly referred to as a 'midrange enclosure'. That is it's main function; to provide an ideal damped, non-resonant enclosure to isolate the midrange from the bass drivers, but also to break up standing waves. However the tweeter also benefits from the enclosure.
