Magico S3

Congrats! Siltech - wow! I'm guessing your cables are the most expensive component in your system and probably tie everything together nicely.

Khin - awesome!!! Love the color too! What a fabulous system. I bet it sounds amazing.

HUGE CONGRATS!! Magico and Class A seems to be a popular trend lately :audiophile::audiophile::audiophile::audiophile:

Now, if only i knew somewhere to get sexy Siltech :hmmm::hmmm::P

Thank you, guys. It's been an eye opening experience.

Come to think of it, including all the Siltech power cords and signal cables (I do use Shunyata Alpha Digital on my DAC, BDP-1 player and Receiver), they are the most expensive component. Didn't plan it that way though. I just didn't want to worry about the cables anymore while building the system so I went with Siltech.

Thanks, Mike. Can't wait to find out what's new in S3 mk2.

Yes. There's some special synergy going on. I cannot believe XA30.8 has that much juice.

Love the m coat! But I'm to cheap to pay that much.
I just noticed you also got the S3s recently. Congrats. Any pic? :)

Thanks, Kuoppis. I must say your posts on S3s played a part in pushing me over the edge. [emoji4]

Happy to hear, I hope you mean that in a good way [emoji15].

But honestly, I think you have gotten yourself a pretty awesome setup. I'm quite intrigued about the XA30.8 being able to drive them.

I meant in the best way possible. haha
I didn't think XA30.8 would play as nice as it does with the S3s, to be honest. But I feel I do need to provide a context. My room is 18 x 24 and S3s are placed on the short wall, 8.5 feet apart from each other (9.5 feet from tweeter to tweeter), a little less than 4 feet from the side walls and 2 feet from the front wall. I'm sitting 11 feet from each speaker and there's a dining table/chairs behind the sitting position.
I do need to turn up the volume by 4-5 more steps for S3s, compared to my other 93db efficient, 8 ohm speakers for the same spl, but S3s sound slightly more effortless with better bass quality and quantity. My normal listening level is around 65db (measuring with an app from iphone at the listening position) and I almost never go up to 90+db, let alone 100+ db. As mentioned before, I still have a good 15-16 steps (maybe close to 20 steps) before the needle on the amp starts to move, so within this context, XA30.8 is no doubt able to drive the S3s with no sign of being underpowered.

Thought S5s would be more imposing than this compared to S3s.

Oooh, a center channel.... I didn't know they made one... maybe I can finally replace my Wilsons!

I was looking at the same thing. And it looks substantial too! No itty bitty center! Great to see this.

They've had that for a while now...maybe 3 years. It costs as much as a pair of s1's IIRC. It does look substantial tho!!!

S1.5 for surrounds and you're all set....and 5 Vitus mono block amps of course!!!

Unfortunately they appear not to show the S-Sub in the picture. That's another really cool beast: 2 x 12", 15-150Hz, 2000 W, 250 lbs.

I spiked my S5 mk2's last night. Big difference as we all know. I've been playing them about 12-15 hours a day and they just keep getting better and better. I remember Ian (MadFloyd) telling me he could never give up Magico bass and I understand why. So deep, so detailed and no overhang or boom. No nightmares. No sounding like there's 15 cheap subs in the room. Just deep, tight, punchy, detailed bass. The new mid and tweeter are also a big big step up.

I suppose nobody paid any attention to my avatar over the past few years :S.

In all serious...it sounds great (although there was something I really enjoyed about the Raidho center - the only Raidho speaker that worked for me).

Hope everyone is well!

Actually I did. You are "the guy" with XS combo and Magico center. lol
Haven't seen you here for awhile now. I read your S5 thread and wondered why you post less now.

The S3 was just tested in German Stereo magazine and was highly recommended.

I have a pair of S1s I use with a Devialet 200, and I'm considering a pair of demo S3s. Has anyone made the move from the S1s to the S3s, and would you say the bump in performance was worth it?

I'm not unhappy with the S1s, but I wonder if the S3s would add something more than just player lower.

If anyone in the Bay Area is interested, the S1s are for sale.
