Magico S3 mk2 review from SoundStage Australia

It looks like the reviewer liked them quite a bit (...finest speakers I've heard in this system), and there's a recurring theme: top-to-bottom coherence.

The S3 Mk2's nanographene woofers blend so seamlessly with its nanographene midrange that the top to bottom cohesiveness is just off the charts. I suspect that Magico will be utilizing nanographene woofers on all their new models from now on due to their superior cohesiveness.

Best,
Ken

I agree the S3 mk2 is a terrific loudspeaker. But just a couple of observations; Firstly, do you feel the S3 Mk2 is a better balanced, more time coherent speaker than the S5 Mk2? Do the lab test results support this view? Secondly don't forget, the S5 Mk2's 10" coated aluminium bass drivers use 4" diameter graphene-reinforced carbon Nano-Tec dust caps, which in turn allowed Magico to reduce the weight of the alu diaphragms. Just sayin'.

Hi David,

No one is trying to compare the S3 Mk2 to the S5 Mk2 except perhaps you. We are just discussing the merits of the latest technology employed in the S3 Mk2 after another stellar review. Its nanographene woofers are turning out to be a huge hit.

Best,

here we go again. Its contest time with Bohdi :( any chance of just enjoying the review for what it is?

Ken,

You're right. That debate was settled in the Incoming: Magico S3 Mk2S3 Mk2 and Magico S3 Mk2 threads, so I'll let that dog rest.

Cheers,

I just finished reading this review. Josh Givorshner has written a solid, well authored review and avoided straying into hypothesis. I can tell he is not a geek with materials science and tech specs, but he clearly knows his stuff when it comes to the reviewing game. The latest S series speakers are very coherent sounding, including the S3 Mk2. The latest driver technology, along with revisions to the cabinets and crossovers have all helped to contribute to the audible improvements. As JG noted - "As with all Magico designs, the drivers fitted in the S3 Mk.II are quite exceptional and have been meticulously integrated using Magico’s exclusive ‘Elliptical Symmetry Crossover’ topology, containing only high quality Mundorf components".

I think Josh summed up these speakers well, noting "The S3 Mk.II is simply an outstanding accomplishment and based on what I’ve heard out there, I feel I’d be hard-pressed to come up with a better performing speaker at their price point".

Yawn, and yet again it's Bohdi feeling this mysterious urge to compensate for something - in the wrong thread.

Are you really so insecure about your last year's tech in this year's product -problem, that you have to display the same frustration in every S3 mk2 thread?

My advice, get over it or swap your speakers.

Let's firstly address your reading skills. My member name is Melbguy1. Next, let's address your spelling skills. "swop" is spelled 'swap'. Next let's address your delusion by differentiating between the truth and your neurotic graphene fetish. Next let's define irony - "Yawn, and yet again it's [correction - Melbguy1] feeling this mysterious urge to compensate for something - in the wrong thread." :roflmao:.

David,

Who are you trying to convince that the S5 Mk2's are sonically superior to the S3 Mk2's, AS forum members or yourself? The only thing these links prove is you are feeling extremely insecure about your S5 Mk2's position in the Magico lineup. All these threads show are the opinions of a few Magico owners. That does not make them fact. These determinations are highly subjective and a matter of personal taste.

The S3 Mk2's nanographene subwoofers employ Magico's latest and greatest technology. They are sonically superior to the S5 Mk2's aluminum woofers in terms of both texture and coherence. This is specifically why Alon has replaced the aluminum woofers with nanographene on all new models. It's time to get over it and accept these facts.

Lastly, coming onto an S3 Mk2 review thread and making these juvenile assertions to try and feel better about your purchasing decision is really bad form in my opinion and just reflects poorly on you.

The irony here is not lost on me. I wont even touch the citation of Alon Wolf...think you need to take your own advice!

Again, how ironic after XV1 and Kuoppis used a previously banned member name to deliberately provoke me. Then you, XV1 and Kuoppis accused me of turning this discussion into a "contest", of having a "mysterious urge to compensate for something", being "insecure", "extremely insecure", "juvenile", of having buyer's remorse, and told to "get over it", all for the mortal sin of questioning your assertion. Members here can make up their own minds.

Hi Kuoppis,

How is the break in coming along on your S3 Mk2's? How many hours do you have on them and have there been any changes sonically?

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,

The process is still ongoing, as I have probably 100 hours on them now. All drivers are still varying their characteristics once in a while. They're good now, but I believe after the 400-500 hour burn-in period they will be even better to a not insignificant extent. That's also what I'm hearing from other Sharks owning the S3 mk2 and being further ahead in the process.

But what I already particularly like is the more complete presentation and coherence through the all-graphene configuration, compared to the previous model with a material mix. The result is a better balance between frequencies and a more immediate sound, allowing the listener to immerse into the music on a different level. The soundstage is also more three-dimensional.

The top end is impressive for its ability to retrieve details without any sharpness, and this is also getting even better gradually. At the beginning of the process I felt the tweeters could feel slightly veiled at times.

Bass is much more present, lively, textured and differentiated compared to the previous version. A real pleasure to listen to.

Midrange, I cannot really tell where bass ends, mids start and hand over to the tweeter. It's just music.

I liked the S3 mk1 and it still is a great speaker, but this one is on a different level. Alon and Yair have really achieved something with their material innovation.

Regards,
Kuoppis
