Magico S1 mk2's - 2 way magic

I have not been a fan-boy in the past for the Magico products. But this mkll series is changing my mind in a big way. My hat is off to Mr. Wolf, and the engineering team at Magico.

Appreciate the feedback.

What are the S1 MK2s replacing?

They are an addition....not a replacement. I have several pairs of speakers now, but feel the Magicos would do well in a small room I have. I just sold my Spatial Lumina open baffle speakers about a month ago, and promised myself not to buy any more. That may give some insight to just how special these speakers are.

These are vey special speakers. I've heard them myself in about an hour listening session. I had them connected to my Pass INT-60 that I brought to the dealer to demo with. At first, I thought the amp wouldn't be enough especially in their fairly large room.

The Midrange on these speakers is special. I've heard the previous generation Magico S line as never felt it was engaging speaker to me.

I compared these to the Focal Sopra N2 during this session.

Have you heard S3's? If so, how is S3 midrange compared to S1 mk2?

Yes, I have heard the S3 but, it was about a year ago. It was also connected to a different front end and amplifier than what I heard the S1 Mark2s with. Honestly, it was too long ago for me to give you a really good answer to your question. But, I remember not being as impressed with the S3s after the demo. This was most likely due to the front end we used. The amplifier simply was underpowered and couldn't control the speaker to me.

It also looks like we will eventually see an S3 mark2 but, probably will come with a huge price increase over the original S3. So, if you can demo an S3 and perhaps get a deal of a demo/used pair. Now might be a good time.

I thought you were asking the price of the S1 MK2? I'm confused.

Posted in a wrong thread. My comment was about the Wilson Sabrina. I would like to hear them side by side.

BTW - Alon told me in Munich he has the S1mk2 at home. Not the S3, not the S5mk2 or some upmarket Q series speakers, but the 'budget' S1mk2.

They made an immediate impression upon me. It has been quite a while since any speakers grabbed my attention like these Magicos did. There is a superb rightousness to their sound. As I stated before, I never really cared for the Magico sound......UNTIL NOW !!! Mine should be arriving anyday.

I'm in agreement with you. Please let us know your impressions as you begin to listen to them in your own system.

How was the Sopra 2 in comparison?

I have heard the previous S1, S3 and Q3, same room, same Soulution front end & pre/power and, surprisingly, preferred the S1 - more coherent and musical, with a presence that the bigger siblings did not have.

Alon told me a year ago that he rarely listens to music at home...i guess like a chef cooking at home lol.

Understandable , its a business and after all day with it , very unlikely you will spend your limited off time doing more listening.

I listened to the Magico first for about an hour or so. The front end was a Pass INT-60 and Aurilac Vega DAC. Using 16/44 files off of Tidal for the demo.

With the Focals I expected them to well be far superior to the Magico in terms of presence and soundstage. Especially given their higher sensitivity. However, I was wrong. I felt the Magico won me over in every aspect. The Focal is a great speaker no doubt. But, back to back with the Magico. I just preferred the coherence, resolution and engagement the S1 mk2 provided over the Focal.

The Sopra moved more air but thats about it. In my smaller room I feel that a two way like the S1mk2 will be a superior speaker for my needs.

Alon seems to like 2-ways. I think I read somewhere that he had the Mini II at home.

My Magico S1 Mk IIs arrived this afternoon. Thank you Audio by Mark Jones! I've been enraptured for the last two hours.

I was just listening to the Wilco song, "Sometimes it Happens" (off "The Whole Love" Lp). The lyrics summed up my feelings about my old speakers: "Sometimes, it happens, that you are loved... and then you are not loved." Lol, I never thought I'd part with my Diapasons (or flip gear with such impunity).

Next into the rack are the new PS Audio BHK 300 monoblocks. One friend (and Shark) is skeptical whether they will handle the Magicos well. What do you think?

Congrats!! The S1 mk2's reveal all the magic of a great two way. As for the PS Audio BHK monos, they won't even break a sweat!
