Magico A3 Price Increase - Effective Immediately

Just so we are clear, Magico is a proper floor standing speaker for $12,300 now with amazing bass and gets flack, and another major competitor is selling a joke of a computer desktop speaker (yes, I’ve heard it) for $12,000 and silence...

i don't doubt it. magico seems to get a lot of flack. hell i would rag on it too - then i bought one and changed my tune, pun intended.

edit: to clarify, i bought one because demos and all help but you never get to know a piece of equipment until you own it in your own room with your own gear. the price was more than i wanted to spend but it's been rewarding as every subsequent purchase has really been allowed to shine.

Peter the M3 was launched at $75k (without MPOD’s). It remains at that price. Mini2 and Q3 are very old models.

Thanks Mike. My mistake. I thought I had seen a listed price of $89K with MPods. It was actually $86K on Audionirvana:

Yes, the Mini2 and Q3 are old models, but I think their prices did increase fairly soon after they were released and reviewed. I'm glad other Magico speaker prices are not increasing like the A3. I have not hear the A3, but it seems like a good value from the reports I've read.

So true. Magico detractors, which includes some of its own customers, are so critical (and even spread miss information). Prices on the W/P quadrupedal over the years but who is calculating (the latest one is practically the same speaker as its predecessor for ~$6K more – not a peep from anyone). The closest thing to an A3 from a competitor I can think of is YG hailey that sells for ~$50K (3-way, full aluminum, etc.). Some perspective here...

Lets not spread more misinformation- the W/P has basically doubled in price since 1999. The DAW price increase is 4k, not 6k.

And I was critical of the Alexia 1 vs 2 price move as were others on this forum.

The A3 is no Hailey competitor. Yes, I've heard both.

LVB, I love my two Magico speakers: Mini 2 and Q3. I acknowledged my mistake for having wrongly thought that the M3 had a price increase. I think I got confused about the cost of the MPod/Mspike and added it to the bass price. I apologize to you and to others for the mistake.

What Magico customers do you think are also detractors of the brand and who spread misinformation? I am curious on what basis do you make such a claim?

I wasn’t necessarily talking about you Peter, and I don’t think that people are doing it out of malice, it is just that people seem to be much more critical of the brand and their impressions do not always coincide with the facts.

Successful companies are often more susceptible to scrutiny. Magico certainly garners more attention than most. They make a great product, have many fans, and seemingly arrived on the scene from nowhere. Their story is mighty impressive. This site seems to be a bit more Magico friendly than others.

I wonder why? :) All good points Peter.

When demand surpasses production capacity you'd have to be pretty bad business wise not to raise the price.

If my memory is correct, previous price rise announcements all had a lead time before they took effect. This price rise is different, it was effective immediately. Those who might have been navigating the decision to buy process have been blindsided this time, and that is unfortunate.

That’s a good point. I’m not sure if it’s a standard practice or not, but whenever there’s a price increase from manufacturers, I don’t remember a time there wasn’t a small lead time, never “effective immediately”. A3 must be selling like hot cakes overwhelmingly and blowing the competitions away at $10k price point.

As a side note, if you’re looking, original S3s at used $10-15k price point becomes more attractive now. When A3 first came out, I talked to Magico and their words “If you are seeking sound performance enhancements over and above your original S3’s then you should invest in a pair of the new S3 Mk II’s”.

They are. 8+ month wait. They are building as fast as they can, hiring more staff too. It’s just killer at its price point.

One of the first articles on the A3's I read was from SoundStage Global in Dec. 2017. Alon Wolf invited their writer Doug Schneider to view and compare the A3's next to the Focal No2's The Focal speakers sold for $4000 more than the A3's. 43% more. The writer found the A3's comparable to the No2's. So, I guess the A3's are now 20% less than one of their main competitors.

Good for all those who got in on the earlier pricing.....get a good 5 years out of them then sell them for what you paid.

It's kind of funny in that two of my purchases I made has gone up in value since I bought them. The Oppo 205 and A3's. I don't plan on selling either. But, how often does a stereo purchase increase in value after a purchase.

I'm so glad to see someone else say what I have also been thinking!

Holy crap -- I'm glad I got my order into my local dealer back in December. Waiting until May (unless something changes) is tough, but getting the speakers, grills and pods at the "old" price is nice.

When I ordered in December, I was told May. Hopefully May holds, and not surprised that 5 months wait has become 8.
