Got wood! Perhaps the only other sub I'd want in my system.

Looks great!

I remember when I got my Qsub15 almost 2 years ago. I picked it up the day before Christmas eve. Me, my brother and father arrived back home at 10 in the evening and we still had to get the boxed beast up to my apartement.

The Qsub15 is very nicely packed in a very big box, weighing 200 kg+. The challenge was to carry it up 3 floors in a building from 1923, without elevator. We finally managed to get it up to my door but then the box was to big to get in. We actually had to take the sub out in the hall and roll in through my main door. It was something I dont forget easily! No regrets now, as it sounds excellent togheter with my M-Pros but I try not to think to much about the day I might move :)

Got them hooked up and running. I haven't used any of the fancy technical aspects of them yet, but I put them basically where my REL G2s were and then set the crossover the same as the RELs and set the volume. Very basic set up - and damn they sound great! So precise, just like you want in a sub.

Definitely a learning curve to use the DSP program, for a non-engineer anyway. But pretty simple once I learned the basics - like where the volume control was - how to change the crossover point - like I said, the basic stuff. :)

As I have more time over the next week, I'll report back on my learning progress. Right now, I just want to listen to them.

Congrats Jock! I bet they sound amazing. Sometimes the simplest setup turns out to be the best. Enjoy those wonderful subs.

Jock, did you not have your G2s hooked up via the Speakon cables (i.e. that connect to your amps)?

Yes. I did.

Instead of that config, I am using xlr's from my KXR20's extra output directly into the new Magico Sub.

But the room acoustics are the same. Which is why I approximated the new subs the same way.

I will say ---- That as the REL's weren't hard to integrate into the system because they really are good subs. BUT the Magico's seem to integrate easier with MANY more options on cross over frequency. I don't know if thats because they are so inert which seems to be a great idea for subs and less higher frequencies being interfered with, or because I'm too stupid yet to set them up. But my guess is the former.

Anybody that wants a pair of REL G2s - NO BOX, in the pacific NW, let me know. Great deal! Especially if I don't have to lift/drive them somewhere.

Well after another 3 hours of listening.

A little history - over the last 20 years, I've really found that a small sub really made a difference in my toe tapping enjoyment of my system.

When I started, I had Proac 1sc and Proac Tab Signatures. Loved them and I had 1 little Sunfire 8" sub. As I had a bigger room and bigger budget I moved up to full range speakers but still found that a sub enhanced the experience. NOTICE I say experience not bass.

7-8 years ago I found the Wilson Watch Dog sub and it was sooooooooooo much better than my Sunfire that ..... well fortunately economics made it possible to do 2 Wilsons. I had read so much about stereo sub being better but . . . . logically I'm like wtf. Bass is non directional so thats just a SALES pitch.

Boy was I wrong. 2 Subs is the only way to go. In fact, I had the chance to try 2 REL $2000 models - I forget the model, against 1 wilson and I liked the 2 RELs better. At that time, I had 2 Wilsons so I wasn't about to change. The Watch Dogs are really really great subs.

BUT they are big. And in my smallish room, when I got the Radio D5s, which are dang big incase you haven't seen them in person. I sold my 2 Wilsons and thought the D5s would be ok. Nope, they still didn't have the same magic as D5s with a sub. So I got 2 REL G2s. The midrange magic came back. I DONT GET it, how does a sub make the mid range better? HELP!!!!!!!

So ---- had a good year financially, and heard the QSub15s at Magico in August. I was literally sold after the first 5 minutes after they switched them on. Thank God Mike didn't know. LOL Downside - they are even bigger than the Wilsons. But worth it.

After 1 day of having them working in my room - WHOLLY SH!T. What a different level of accuracy, tight, and ump!

Really a dream sub set up. I am so fortunate in this great country. Again - nothing is without it's weirdness - operating is a learning experience. The manual SUCKS - it was written by engineers that seem to think everybody else is smarter than they are. Because coming in fresh - they would have a fun time understanding what was written too. Almost worthless - but great for a laugh! :)

Tan - What do think of their manual? Maybe it's just me. In which case - Party on! :woot:

Hi Jock
Great story and I agree, the manual could have been easier to follow. But, I found my way around after some mails to my dealer and playing around with the DSP program. One thing I love is that I can connect the Qsub to my home network and to the adjusment from my Mac in the sweet spot.

My inital placement of the sub was in the left corner, just behind the left main speaker. The sound was great but I had to work hard to integrate it. Then I bought 2 racks and put the Qsub in the senter between the speakers, in lin, maybe 10 cm back. The sound here was so much better than the corner placment, I also were able to turn of most of the EQ as you can see in the picture, additionaly I use room correction (Amarra iRC/Dirac).

I actually had Peter Mackay in for a visit a couple of months ago and I think he really liked the way my Qsub integrates in my "smalish" room (25 sqm but opens to kitchen the same size). Peter is a great guy by the way!

I heard there was an updated softeware released this summer. Can you check if you are able to set the Low Pas Filter (LPF) lower than 50 hz and save/use it? Thanks.

I agree Peter is a really good guy. Thats great he came by. Maybe he will be in Oregon someday.

I don't know about the new software. BUT - when I first turned them on, it would always come back to 50Hz which was very frustrating.

I really don't know what I've done but now it seems to hold a lower crossover freq(30-32Hz). I did do an update through the program. So maybe thats what you are talking about. Their manual is silent about any of that. Magico is having their in house expert give me a call whenever he can to answer questions. That was Monday, so obviously he's out this week for the holidays since nobody has called me.
