Luxman 590AX Mark II - Such a home run!

The heat of summer is becoming a little oppressive so I’m happy the Job is back. It definitely runs cooler than everything else I have. The Job/Avantgarde combo is pretty impressive and makes a great little package.

Luxman is superb but honestly raises my room temp a pretty decent amount. It would have been better for this past winter. It’s a little more tolerable at night which is the majority of my listening.

Air conditioning will probably be in use soon, but we like to hold off as long as possible. Once that happens, amp choice will not matter as much.

The Linton and Luxman 590 combo is awesome. It’s pretty amazing what you can get for $1500 retail. The power is more than adequate for me and I expect everyone else too.

Heat, tell me about it. I had to move my Pass out of my little listening room. Just got to toasty in there,. It will come back out when its cooler. :weird:

Hi Chris,

I have to say that I’ve never run across an amp, integrated in this case, that sounds so awesome and is so versatile. It easily has double the power, closer to almost two and a half to three times rated power. It’s sweet where it needs to be and ballsy too. Great depth, big 3D, big soundstage with smooth detail.

I’m so happy with the 590. It’s not super expensive in the grand scheme of things. It has lots of features and is overall perfection in one package. I love it.

It works great on super efficient speakers (dead quiet) and not so efficient speakers.

Hi Joe,

Do you like Luxman 590Axii more than the MQ-300 you owned sometime back on your AGs?

The MQ-300 is one of the best, if not the best amp, I have heard, if you like the 590Axii as much or more, that says something.

I am currently in a conundrum on which Luxman to buy: the 590AXii, the LX-380 or go for the gold with the MQ-300 + CL-1000 combo :disbelief:

Thanks,
Bhaskar

Hi Bhaskar,

I’d have to qualify my answer. If used only for very efficient speakers like my Avantgarde, the MQ300 can not be beat. Tubes absolutely rule in this case.

If you have a variety of speakers and some need power, the 590 is absolutely unbeatable. It’s definitely one of the, in not the best, solid state amps I have ever owned or heard. It has it all and just missing the tiniest of tube bloom and extra 3D that tubes give you.

But, the MQ300 does not have the tightest bass which is okay with me. If I had one (or two) do overs, the MQ300 is one piece that I never should have sold. It’s that good.

Thank you! This was very useful feedback.

Another question if you don't mind, since you seem to be one of the few handful people who have owned both the Accuphase E-650 and Luxman 590AXii. If you were to ignore the price difference, and price in general. Which one do you like better?

I owned both as well as Joe. The Luxman 590. Hand down to our system.

Big plus 1. I totally agree. There certainly could be times, depending on speakers, some would prefer the Accuphase, but for me the Luxman has been stellar on everything I’ve paired with it.

That's good to know.

I can audition an Accuphase E-650, but getting an audition of Luxman 590AXii has been challenging so far. But there is a huge price difference between the two, more than 50%, 7.5K vs 11.7K

Based on everything you guys are saying Luxman seems like a no-brainer. But, its a blind buy :(

A blind buy yes, but a safe buy in my opinion.

What speakers are you planning on using with either the Luxman or Accuphase?

Congrats Joe! I’ve also been enjoying my 590AX MKII immensely for the last 1.5 years now. I also have a Prima Luna Dialogue HP triode/pentode tube integrated for when the tube mood strikes. Both are driving the Harbeth 40th Anniv 30.2’s

Let me just say that the EL34’s running in triode mode can unleash some seriously sweet music on close up, intimate and dynamically undemanding recordings but as I switch over to the 590AXII and do some back and forth comparison listening, I have yet to find a significant and meaningful difference in the strengths between the two. That’s a testament to the sweet class A voicing of the 590II.

Of course the 590II pulls way ahead if I want to listen to complex and dynamic recordings at levels that require way more current reserves than even the pentode mode of the PrimaLuna is comfortable with.

While I’ve often had tubes and solid state in the same system, I’ve never experienced a virtually non existent gap in terms of tube sweetness, harmonic bloom and a spacious soundstage between the two topologies like I do now.

The 590AXII is a tremendous value and a stellar performer IMHO. Enjoy and don’t forget to use the headphone section. That is another treat in this integrated.

Well said Serge. I remember your enthusiasm and excitement when that system came together. You got me thinking early on and as the numbers grew, I had listen for myself. An integrated that works beautifully on everything from Avantgardes to Harbeth, Wharfedale, Klipsch and more too numerous to mention is special to me.

Devore Orangutans O/96

I have not yet "met" anyone who has tried this combo. If there's anyone in this forum, would love to hear your impressions.

Jeez I’m getting luxman fever with more research I do! The secondary question for me is which to pair with my ME-1.....? But these 590axii threads are keeping me up at night! Better late than never but congrats Joe!

Thank you very much. Luxman, especially the integrateds, is the real deal. A truly beautiful sounding musical piece. I love seeing all the comments from new users who realize how amazing they sound.

Anyone knows what is the gain for MC in the Luxman L-590AXII? I am guessing the phono section is the same as the L-509X?

Thanks!

Has anybody heard of a successor coming? I've read somewhere that it's on the horizon but I can't find that article anymore. I think they were talking about the limited edition 595 and mentioning a successor for the 590axii coming in near future. You guys think it's worth the wait?

Now I'm in the market for one to drive the JBL L100 Classic. Where is a good place to buy? Some used ones on the market but warranty seems non-transferable.

Hi Mike,
I asked this question to Q3 (Jim) because he mentions the Diablo 300 in his signature (with 87 db speakers), and I think he was using the L 590 axII before ( with what speakers ?).
At home, my Luxman (590 axII) matchs very well with a pair of Triangle Magellan Quattuor.
